Is it the # to the hospital??? Sometimes it takes a few days for them to get back to you... but they do! I took it last week! It was seriously a joke of a class.... dont worry .. I dont have the # on me... but I think it starts with a 376 or something like that??? I will try and find out the # for you to make sure its the right #!

I'm not sure if they offer it every week! It starts usually at 8 and they say its 2 hours ... we were there for like 45 minutes if that! Keep calling leaving messages (nice ones) But urging them to call you back ASAP as you may expect DD very soon!!!

C-section class? Huh... DW had an emergency C, and a scheduled C. We never had a class for either one. For DW.... "Lie on the bed. You'll be knocked out from the waist down, so you have no choice but to lie still." For me: "Put on this sterile gear, and do whatever we tell you to do."
Didn't need much of a class for that...

i totally understand and agree with you 100%.. but the Ob office and Good Sam said its mandatory for everyone to take it and if you dont your "coach" will not be allowed into the room

Re: mandatory c-section class at good sam...
Hi, there is actually a c-section class this Saturday(the 23rd) from 10-12. You don't even need to reserve a spot, you can just show up. Just ask the hospital front desk how to get to the room. I talked to someone the other day to sign up for the breastfeeding class and they told me that you don't need reservations for the c-section. They don't take any names. I will be there!

WHAT?? C-section class! UGH! My DH works crazy hours and it's nearly impossible to get us both together on his day off!
What if I had a c-section already but at a different hospital? Do I still have to take the class??? My DH didn't take a class and somehow, he survived.

Yeah I think because it is mandatory they don't require to sign up for spots. My husband will also be very miserable to be there!

Re: mandatory c-section class at good sam...
I'm curious what they teach you in this class. As Goldenrod said it's pretty straightforward, put this on and do as I say I can pretty much teach everything my patients need to know about a c/sect in 10minutes. I'm wondering if something happened in the past at Good sam that caused them to initiate this "mandatory" class.

i know alot of husbands tend to "watch" and then passout! so it may be just to prepare you for what to expect if you should need a csecton.

My lamaze instructor who works at the hospital, also said that it is usually only 45 minutes. So it shouldn't be too bad!

Re: mandatory c-section class at good sam...
I took it 2 years ago and it was under an hour. There were a few couples who just showed up as well without booking and they were not turned away. It is also up to the staff that day if they let someone in who did not take the class - sometimes they do sometimes they dont. From what I remember if it is an Emergency CS guests cannot come in. sortof OT - during my CS I was a bit nervous and asked for music and they put on a radio station I liked during the procedure. Also, they give you a "shot" of valium right to the vein if you want

Re: mandatory c-section class at good sam...
Glad you found out how to get to a class but just wanted to add that this is strange. My cousin just had a baby in Good Sam this past Christmas and she said there were no classes offered. She had to take them at Southside. Strange.

Re: mandatory c-section class at good sam...
There are tons of classes offered at Good Sam. DH & I did the mandatory C-Section class, 5 week lamaze, and I took the breastfeeding course.
Are you calling the perinatal education center at the hospital? They always got back to me within a day or so.

Re: mandatory c-section class at good sam...
The class is seriously a JOKE!!!!!! But you do get a certificate at the end.. with urs and DH's name on it! My friend just had her abbay and the nurses asked if they had their certificate with them when she delivered! So definatly go and dont forget to pack it!
As far at the class... they open the class with a video on Shaken baby syndrome... becuase the hospital had a few babies last yr... more than normal that were brought in for that... then they go into these slides.. I mean like an old slide /projector from mid 90's.... then we wtach a movie... from 1992!
Hahaha .. DH really didnt wanan be there as he works really long hours... but we went and he found part of it funny .. I guess how old the video was.. and then he could not stop laughing!!! For liek 15 minutes.. he was laughing uncontrolably!!! It was funny!!!
Anyway... class is quick and easy!!! Get it over and done with ASAP!!!!

Re: mandatory c-section class at good sam...
Just a FYI, we never took the class, we kept putting it off and DH was allowed in the operating room. It was not even a question whether or not we had taken it so do not worry about it at all! I had an emergency c-section.
