mandoline for chopping veggies?

I'm thinking of buying a mandoline for chopping veggies into fun cuts. If you own one, which one do you have and what do you like/dislike about it?

I'm debating between a Zyliss and an OXO...unless someone has a different brand or model in mind.

TIA!

Re: mandoline for chopping veggies?

I just went to a Pampered Chef party this weekend and they have a FANTATIC one!!

It comes with 4 different blades....they slice (2 different thicknesses), one that is a crinkle cut, and a cheese grater

The OXO got the best rating by Cook's Illustrated. I have the Zyliss. I rarely use it (I just don't need julienned or waffle cut veggies that often!) but when I do it works great.

I know this is an old post, but I would recomend the OXO - DH is a chef and he says this one is great and is def the safest.

I bought my mother an Oxo one and its HUGE, way too bg imo for what it does. I have a Japanese one called a Benriner
Here is a link and its great, I have been using it for probably 7 years now, and the blade is still razor sharp, and best of all, it doesn't take up too much space/

I def agree that the Benriner is a great mandoline, but you have to be very careful with it because of how sharp it is. My mom cut herself pretty badly once on hers which is why she switched to the OXO.

Thanks for the tips! I've decided to go with the OXO! I'm a total klutz and hopefully I won't cut myself trying to use it!

Tell that to my knuckle, which ended up in some coleslaw. I am just more careful now, so I prefer the Benriner, I don't have room to store the Oxo.
