Manhasset/Port Washington
Just looking for thoughts on those areas. We currently live in NYC and will be moving in a few months. Both in our 30's no kids...(but soon will be TTC).
We just heard good things about the Port Washington area. Theaters, shops, grocery, nice town, stuff to do, good people.
Thoughts on the area?

Re: Manhasset/Port Washington
I grew up in Port Washington. It was a great town to grow up in. Lots to do and beautiful. The only drawback is how far it is from the expressway and parkway. You have to travel another 15-20 min sometimes to get into town from the parkway and that is a pain!

Re: Manhasset/Port Washington
It's a great commute to and from the city if that's important to you!
We looked there first but couldn't find anything we liked in our price range.

Re: Manhasset/Port Washington
I agree with both the PP's. I love Port Washington and wanted to live there but we got twice the house on the south shore, if not more. I can't stand the distance from the highway though...

Re: Manhasset/Port Washington
I think it also depends on if you are renting or buying.
The commute from the North Shore into NYC is great. You do have to travel a ways to the parkways, but there is so much in both towns. If you live close enough to the LIRR and can walk, Northern Blvd is close and Port has great places to eat and is soo pretty.

Re: Manhasset/Port Washington
Thanks for the advice.
I work in the city and DH is on LI (LIE exit 48).
Maybe getting to the LIE may be a pain, but the commute from the train for ME might be worth it.
Good stuff. Thanks ladies.

Re: Manhasset/Port Washington
I live in Manhasset. The Northern State and LIE both border Manhasset so it's not far to get to the parkways from here.... Certain areas in Port are far from the LIE/NS but others are much closer. I am on the Manhasset/Port border and with the exception of between 4:00 and 5:00pm, it takes me 6 minutes to get to the LIE. You can not beat the commute by train. In Manhasset, you will get a spot no problem until about 8:30am, it costs $3/day. I am not sure but I think it is much more difficult to park in Port.
As far as the community and the people, we have had a fantastic experience in Manhasset. I also have a lot of friends from Port and there is a great community there as well. Please feel free to FM me if you want more details....
