Manual DSLR Settings for Darkened indoor shooting (repost from fhf)
Hi! I know there are a lot of talented photography moms on this board and I was hoping for some advice. This is my post from FHF.
Happy holidays to all! I was hoping that someone with knowledge of manual dslr settings could help me out.
I'm holding a large family party in a restaurant tonight. It will be fairly dark with holiday lighting, candles, and a fireplace.
What would you suggest the best settings are for this type of condition?
We'll probably go see the tree afterwards.
I have a Nikon d60 if that helps.
Thanks!

M setting :
First thing is to bump up the ISO , depending on light you cold go 400-1600 (note-higher ISO will give more noise though) Set your aperture (A) big- F/2, F/4 (depending on your lens). Set shutter (S) speed on 1/60 (anything below 60 will be hard to shoot without a tripod/hand held and pics will come out blurry, or use a tripod, in which case you can go lower S speed) You should def use external speed light if you have it , try bouncing the light off the ceiling so you don't get weird shadows.
Try and lower lights at home and try shooting, play with settings and see what looks better.
