Marathoners - long runs

Where do you do your long runs? I live between the Massapequa Preserve and the bike path to Jones Beach, so I run there a lot...but I'm worried that I'll get bored with those pretty soon!

Re: Marathoners - long runs

When I trained for a marathon I was living elsewhere, so that's not really helpful. But DH did a marathon this year, and he did all of his long runs on the preserve. When I am training for a half, I split my long runs between the preserve and the bike path. I am too lazy to drive anywhere to run-I can run to both of those from home.

I did all mine at Sunken Meadow State Park. And I posted the same exact question on the GLIRC board, looking for alternatives, but I ended up sticking with Sunken Meadow for a few reasons. 1. tons of bathrooms. 2.close to home. 3.the variety there (roads, trails, boardwalk).

Caumsett state park is really nice too (but a hike for you). I ran the 25k race there in March which was 5 loops of the 5k course. I actually really enjoyed it and will get back there for 5 loops (15.5 miles) or 6 loops (18.6 miles) when I train for my next marathon.

I do most from my house. I have loops up to 9 miles that I do from my house.

I do have a 18 and 20 mile route, but I have started to like more frequent shorter loops, so I can leave water/gatorade in my mail box and then use the bathroom if I have to.

sit on mapmyrun and figure out some different length routes.
