Martial arts monthly payments is one being pulled over me?
My DSs class is $139 a month I sometimes pay by check and sometimes credit. The owner asked if he could keep the credit info so he could do it automatically. I said ok and learned from another parent she does the automatic monthly charge and its $129. So I brought this up to the owner by phone and he said only if its a year or two contract for that price not because of automatic credit payment. Does this make sense to you? Like the rest of us here I'd like to save every $1 I can. I heard the other mom correctly and when I asked the owner to show me sign on /contract paperwork he was talking in circles could be a language issue in that he wasn't understanding me or me understanding him. I do remember when filling out paperwork to have automatic check account withdrawal or credit it would be cheaper. What are your thoughts? I asked him to show me the paperwork the next time I come in.

I think it's very common for those type of places to give prices breaks for those who sign on for more extended period of time. I know when my daughter took gymnastics I would pay $10 less a months if I signed on for 9 months as oppose to 3 months.

If the other Mom signed her kid up (by contract) for 2 years, I can totally see how they pay less per month. She is getting a better deal because she guarantees that instructor her business for two years.
If your kids plan on doing it long-term, check into a longer contract and your charge per month might be less too

If I do a contract don't I have to put a substantial amount down? Now that my son likes it I'm ready to do it but not sure if I can now say I want a contract.

We didn't have to put anything down. You are guarantee a higher number of payments, so the per-month cost is less, very common.
We sign up DD for a 6-month contract and it's a decent savings over doing 1 month at a time.

I think the reason the other woman's payments are less than your payments is that she agreed to be charged monthly for a year or two years. All of the karate schools near me give discounts like you are describing for longer term contracts. If you think your DC will enjoy karate for a year or two then see if they will sign you up for the reduced rate.

I pay for the whole year ( 2 kids) to get a discount. It's normal

They usually offer discount for long term contracts, that's the incentive.
