Re: Master Bedroom Seperate Floor...

Our house has a master bedroom on the bottom floor.

We turned it into an office/play room - whatever you want to call it

We have two bedrooms upstairs, one is our room and the other is DD room.
When and if another one comes along we have a storage room - that is a decent size room (12x10 - I think) but it is has a slanted ceiling - so we plan on making it a bedroom - but we have to take the roof off and build it into a room (does that make sense)

I didn't want my bedroom to be on a different floor than my kids

Re: Master Bedroom Seperate Floor...

Our master is downstairs w/babys room upstairs. It's fine w/a monitor. I've slept in his room on occasion but I'd have done that even if we were on the same level when he was sick and I was breastfeeding at night. If you love the house, go for it!

We are in that position now. We are trying to find a house but both feel we want our bedroom on the same floor as DS and any future child.

Re: Master Bedroom Seperate Floor...

Before we had DD I would have said " oh it doesnt matter as long as you have a monitor"...now that DD is here our bedroom and hers are on the same level. With that I have the monitor on and the doors to both rooms open wide so I can run to her if she needs me....she is in bed with us by 2am every night but thats a whole diffrent issue...but I am going to start moving her back into her crib next week so it does help to just be able to walk across the hallway to do that.

My friend sleeps on a diffrent floor to her little one, no monitor and it seems to work fine for them....not for me I am a worry wart.

Our room is upstairs, and the kid's rooms are down.... I have no problem with it- that's what monitors are for.

Re: Master Bedroom Seperate Floor...

We live in a cape and the master is upstairs and all 3 of my boys are down stairs. I not a big fan of it but we really have no choice. When we do our extension the bedrooms will be on the same floor Chat Icon

I think that is great with older children but not what I'd choose before they were school age.

Re: Master Bedroom Seperate Floor...

I prefer to have our room right with our kids rooms. You don't want to be too far away when your future children get the stomach virus, you hear them, and you are able to run and grab them just in time to throw them in the bathroom!Chat Icon

We chose a ranch for this reason. I wanted our son (and future child/ren) to be on the same floor as us.

Re: Master Bedroom Seperate Floor...

If the rooms are on different floors, you still have a chance of getting some sleep, even when DC is playing their radio, or chatting on the phone at all hours when they're teenagers... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
