Hi All. I just recently found out that I am pregnant with #2. When I was pregnant with #1 there was no such thing as MaterniT21. A friend of mine who had a baby about 6 months ago told me she was offered this test in the 1st trimester and it both checked for abnormalities and determined gender. I haven't really heard of it before and I'm wondering if this is something that is now offered to all women as a part of standard procedure, or if it depends on the practice? TIA

It's a new test.
I know insurance will cover it if over 35, have another medical indication.
It's a DNA snip analysis test... Really cool technology, but really $$$ if paying out of pocket (runs nearly 3k).
Find out if your insurance will cover. It is really noninvasive if yes.

My doctor explained it as accurate as an amnio, but tests for fewer things. It tests for the most common genetic abnormalities, plus checks the sex chromosomes.

After mine came back normal, my OB didn't even give me the NT scan at 12 weeks. There was no need since we already had our answer.

It's pretty amazing that they can take blood from your vein and separate out the baby's chromosomes from it, especially at just 10 weeks!

Insurance won't cover it for me because I'm under 35 with no family history.

I had the test since I am over 35 and was covered by insurance. My dr said she only offers it to people who are over 35 or have a history of genetic disorders

I will be 35 when I deliver and have family history so both qualified me to get it... Currently waiting anxiously for my results!!
On a side note ... Took test Wednesday they told me 10 days for results (materni21 site says approx 5) so not sure when I'll hear ..anyone test with SBOBGYN recently ? . I wanted to reveal to my family after testing was done and hoping for an April 1 reveal (since we swore to everyone we were one and done lol this makes two)

I had the test done! It is something new.
I am 34 but will be 35 when I deliver, therefore I am considered "advanced maternal age"
make sure the test is covered under your insurance, it should be, as long as you are in the advanced maternal age category. if not, you will have to pay a boat load of money out of pocket.

all checked out well with the test. The gender is given on the lab results but I did not want to know the gender at that time.
