Re: maternal fetal specialist
They typically deal with high risk pregnancies. I am a type 1 diabetic and I say a maternal fetal medicine specialist. There were people there with high blood pressure/cardiac issues, etc. I saw her for my whole pregnancy and did not see my regular ob/gyn. She is in the city and affiliated with columbia hospital. I loved her and I had the easiest pregnancy, no complications. I had a better pregnancy than all of my friends with no issues!

Re: maternal fetal specialist
The overly simplified way my OB explained it was this way: at his office, I am the patient. At the Maternal-fetal specialist, the baby is the patient. I am seeing the specialist because I have slightly elevated blood pressure. My OB and the specialist have a great relationship, and are working together. The specialist is very focused on this issue, whereas the OB takes care of the full spectrum of regular pregnancy issues. It means more appointments, but it is in my - and most importantly - the baby's best interest.
Good luck to you!!!
