maternit21 test?
Can someone tell me if this is a blood test, or if its more invasive than that? I've been hearing about it, but not sure what it is. TIA

maternit21 test?
It's a blood test, they take 2 vials of blood. It is about 99.1% accurate in testing for downs and trisomy 13 and 18. For 100% accuracy you would need a more invasive test like the cvs or amnio

This. I had it done and it was exactly this. .just not accurate with multiples or donor eggs. . Harmony is similar test owned by different people. I also found out the sex when I did the Maternity21

Re: maternit21 test?
Ugh. That's probably why it wasn't offered to me-because I'm carrying twins. I have a history of m/c's and all of these invasive tests terrify me. We won't abort regardless of the outcome, so leaning towards declining them .. thanks for the info!

It is accurate with both donor eggs and multiples. For some reason information was put out earlier that the test was not accurate as to these curcumstances but it is not true. The makers of this test have said so themselves. You can take the test if you are having more than one. If you get a positive result however you will not know which or if both babies tested positive unless you do an amino or CVS. Many women who have had multiples and used donor eggs have had the test done. I myself used donor eggs and did this test. Lots of posts on this on Baby Center. It also tests for gender.

Re: maternit21 test?
Hi..It is accuarate with twins. Have you sat with the genetic counselor yet? I really was not comfortable doing CVS early on, so I did this test first, and if it was pos. would have done further testing to see which baby had an issue. Of course it's not 100% accuarate, but the statistics are very good, the counselor will go over that with you. This test combined with the regular screeening made me feel pretty comfortable. GOOD LUCK!

We've been doing ivf for years... But this is the furthest we've gotten in pg so far, & praying this is the one. They tested us for tons of stuff before starting ivf-is a genetic counselor someone I am supposed to see while I'm pg too? I'm probably being released from my RE in the next week or 2. Already seeing my perinatologist, who is the one asking about the tests. Have my 1st appt w/ my OB next week.

Re: maternit21 test?
sorry for the misinformation. .. my info did come from a medical source but apparently not a reliable one. . I trust the other women with more current information! sorry for that.
Maybe you could ask for it? I asked for mine.

I am not sure what you were worked up for in the past. I had the age issue ( I am 37 now), which is why genetic counseling came up. I also have some heart issues on DH side of the family and Cystic fibrosis on mine. The heart issues were the main concerns combined with my age that prompted the genetic counseling. We did fetal echos for the hearts as well, since the blood test is just for chromosone abnormalities. If i can find my brochure about the multiples statistics, I will try and scan it in for you, and send it to you if you like.
I was released from my RE at about 9 weeks along, saw my OB (who does not do the test, and I was their first pt. to have it done). I also spoke to a high risk OB aquaintance, who recommended the test to start off. All I can say is it doesn't hurt..there is NO RISK to baby in taking it, and that was important to me..Going through IF makes you concious of all the things that could go wrong. This was a step towards peace of mind, and could help make the decision for further testing as needed.
Also the bonus is, you get a idea of what you are having. They found a Y chromosone early, so I knew there was at least one boy in there..had to wait for the anatomy scan to find out if it was one or two (TORTURE>>LOL)
It did give me peace of mind though, and I recommend it. Any questions, let me know
