Maternity 21 and Harmony test
My midwife suggested that I take the harmony blood test at my 10 week appointment. However, I called my insurance company and was told that this test isn't covered since I am under 35, have no risk factors etc. if your insurance didnt covered these screening tests what testing did you do in the first trimester ? One more question : anyone know what the test costs out of pocket ?

Maternity 21 and Harmony test
I don't know the out of pocket cost but heard they are high. I'll be 35 when I deliver (by a month) so these tests were covered for me.
You were smart to call your insurance company first. Hope someone on here can tell you the price.

Maternity 21 and Harmony test
My friend paid out of pocket and it was $200. She does love OOS so maybe the cost is different.

Re: Maternity 21 and Harmony test
my insurance company said it wasn't covered and that it would be $250 OOP. We went ahead anyway. To our surprise, they covered it with just a regular $20 copay.

Re: Maternity 21 and Harmony test
I feel like this was never a thought 2.5 years ago with my first pregnancy. Do all OB's offer this? If I call my insurance to ask I just refer to the Maternity 21 or Harmony test?
I am over 35, so hopefully it is not an issue.

Re: Maternity 21 and Harmony test
I only did the ultrascreen with DS, and will do only the ultrascreen again with this pregnancy. My OB hasn't said anything about taking any other test. I don't think its covered by my insurance anyway since I am under 35.

I don't think the test was available 2.5 years ago. It definitely wasn't when I was pregnant with S. Yes, all should offer - it's just a blood test. Can also be called Panorama, there are a few different names for it. Your ins company should know though. Over 35 I am pretty sure it's covered across the board.

Re: Maternity 21 and Harmony test
I don't know the cost for these tests specifically, but I took the Progenity test, which is basically the same test, different lab. My insurance company initially rejected the coverage and my bill was almost $12,000. Yes, you read that correctly. These are expensive tests where they examine the chromosomes of the DNA. They are not cheap. If they are not covered and you are low risk, I have no idea why you'd take the test. NT Scan should be enough for your first trimester.

Re: Maternity 21 and Harmony test
I have Empire (NYSHIP) and I did the Maternit21 test. It was not covered by my insurance. I got a bill from the lab for $1,300 - but when I called them they settled for only $200. Well worth it IMO.
ETA: I was 36 at the time.

Re: Maternity 21 and Harmony test
Well, my insurance sucks. I think the cost depends on what you have and what type of coverage. My insurance covered it but I got a bill for close to $800 bc I have a highg deductible plan. I took the Maternity 21 and the bill says the total cost of the test was $2300. I tried calling numerous times but it is what it is.

Maternity 21 and Harmony test
I was told over 35 insurance should cover it and the lab told me that if insurance did not cover it there max out of pocket to patients would be $200 (I think they initially bill you the entire amount but all you have to do is call them an tell them insurance didn't cover it and they reduce it to $200). My insurance company (Oxford) wouldn't pay but I appealed with the insurance company and was successful. If you have any questions please feel free to FM me

Maternity 21 and Harmony test
Call the customer service for maternit21 and harmony and talk to them. Both times I did maternit21 and used their patient assistance program. They billed the full amount, then I called to get it reduced to whatever they told me it was beforehand (around $200 both times). But I would definitely call first and make sure they can still lower the price and what it would be. Panorama quoted me a huge amount out of pocket, although I have heard about others not paying as much.

Maternity 21 and Harmony test
So I called harmony and they told me that if I they cannot collect payment from my insurance company they will NOT balance bill me and there will be no charge. Did anyone have this happen to them ? It seems too good to be true.

This. Unless you get that in writing first, I wouldn't believe them.
I bet they don't balance bill when insurance pays part of it. Your insurance will reject all of it b/c you're under 35.

I was told this too by my OB. They swear it will be covered by Harmony if my insurance won't. I will be 34 at time of delivery. I have a tentative blood draw for 1/2. My OB said harmony trying to collect data and willing to cover what insurance doesn't. I plan to look into this further as 1/2 approaches.

Maternity 21 and Harmony test
So I spoke with the office and the receptionist says that they won't balance bill as well, but she's going to speak with another billing specialist to be sure. Grr, this is makings me nervous. I don't know what to do. I'm really scared of being stuck with a big bill.

Im new to all of this but I'm curious why one would take the test if they're under 35 and have no other risk factors? My midwive said it is dramatically more accurate than the NT scan. I guess I'd rather know definitively than have a false positive on the Nt scan and need further testing anyways.
