Maternity Clothes question

I'm about 14-15 weeks and am still wearing some of my regular clothes and also a few maternity tops my sister got me at Target. I'm due in January and will be pregnant in both the hot and cold weather.

What are your reccommendations for the necessities? Should I buy a little here and there as the pregnancy progresses, or is it a good idea to stock up if I hit a really good sale?

Re: Maternity Clothes question

I totally stocked up early on. I went to Maternity Works in the Source Mall and got a bunch of stuff either on sale or for a pretty reasonable price. Then, I went to Mimi Maternity 1-2 weeks later b/c they were having a huge sale (I think they might still be having a sale). I got quite a few shirts/sweaters that I could wear in the fall and early winter.

I'm pretty much set now. Use those pillows that they have at the store. It's supposed to add 3 months to your belly although it seemed like it added more. That way, you'll know how much room you have to grow. For the fall/winter bottoms, get the full panel pants. I recommend the secret fit belly ones - sooo comfortable. You can get away with no panel or 1/2 panel shorts/capris. Have fun shopping!

Re: Maternity Clothes question

I bought most of my stuff early on from the gap, kohls, the motherhood store at the source and even sears. My advice is do not spend a lot of $$ bc the time goes by so fast and try and get things maybe one size bigger so you can wear it till the end!

Re: Maternity Clothes question

I just went to Motherhood/Mi-Mi near the Smithhaven Mall and they are having a huge sale- Spent about $200 and got a lot of stuff for both seasons...I'm leaning more towards the short sleeves though figuring that I can always wear a sweater or something and just in case i get hot I can take it off ! Just be careful because Motherhoods return policy is tricky from what I remember Chat Icon

Re: Maternity Clothes question

I'm in the exact same boat. I'm 14 wks.

I'm going to the outlets this weekend with my mom. I plan on getting a couple of pairs of work pants/skirts/tops that are a little bit bigger. I'm not buying any fall/winter stuff until I'm there. I personally don't feel comfortable buying too much too soon.

Re: Maternity Clothes question

I agree with all of those recommendations

I also love secret belly fit pants... I recommend that you buy only a few bottoms right now, and get full panel/belly fit when ever possible. many of my non-full panel pants and skirts no longer fit me well at almost 30 weeks.

since you will mainly grow in the cooler weather (I was in a similar situation, except with spring/summer growth), you may want to wait until the cooler-weather clothes come out. I bought and wore jeans mainly during that seasonal transition, since those are all-year clothes

have fun shopping!

Re: Maternity Clothes question

For DD who was supposed to be a November baby, I just bought stuff that I could layer - Terry suits that I could wear with my short sleeve tops from summer, etc.

Now that I am due in Jan, I will definitely need to get some sweaters and a winter coat!

Re: Maternity Clothes question

I would wait to buy as the need arises. That's what I'm doing and it has worked out really good so far. Plus I was very lucky to have TONS of hand me downs for my SIL and friends!
