Maternity Clothing Vent
I've bought most of my maternity clothing from Gap Maternity, which I usually love. Despite that, I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the idea of why a clothing company would put tight elastic bands around the sleeve of a pregnant woman's shirt. Can someone explain that to me? Isn't the point of some maternity clothing to allow women to look stylish while being comfortable? How can an elastic band around the top of my arm be considered comfortable? I'm already self-conscious about how much weight I've gained and an elastic band that makes my arm look fat does nothing to help me out there. Why do I get the feeling a man designed the shirt in question? I got so frustrated this morning that I tried to cut the bottom of the elastic and ended up cutting up too far. I dropped it off at the seamstress at my drycleaner to see if she could fix it...and cut the damn elastic off at the same time! Does anyone else every get cranky about stupid things like this or am I losing my mind?

You are not losing your mind.
MY vent is that they don't make the shirts true to size. I am wearing a LG shirt and it's TIGHT. I can see it being tight if it was a regular shirt, but I would think that a LG maternity shirt on an average sized pregnant woman should still fit me.....

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much for posting this. I got a new shirt, which I love, but the elastic really started to aggravate me around the top of my arms. I wish the exact shirt came with cuff sleeves.

I'm w/ you, I'm hating the elastic arms & lately my dressy socks are cutting circulation on my legs.

THANK YOU......I went from a small to an extra-large shirt since my belly is out & proud & HUGE. No other weight/size gain anywhere on my body, but be it damned if I can keep this belly covered

Re: Maternity Clothing Vent
Yes, I'd also like to know why they think CAP sleeves are attractive??? I've had broad shoulders to begin with and these "tees" they've got out with cap sleeves, or the ones with the elastic??? Are they serious???
Not a fan.

Re: Maternity Clothing Vent
Found a new vent this morning. Maternity pants! Do they not realize they need to make more room in the thighs and hips...not just the belly!!!! Some women actually gain weight in their legs and hips when pregnant. Imagine that! I swear men designed this stuff.

Re: Maternity Clothing Vent
I agree about the tops being too short. I was once an extra small, now I need larges to cover my belly and they still don't fit right. It's very annoying!

amen to that!! i bought my first 2 pairs of maternity pants - i had to buy a medium because the size Small fit a little snug in the thigh area = PS the medium is big in the waist/hip so yesterday i wore it with my bella band to hold up but all my friends who saw me said they looked too big on me?! ugh!!!

Since I did not gain in my hips or thighs, everything falls off of me b/c I am all belly & even the roll top pants cannot stay up at this point on their own over my belly

Re: Maternity Clothing Vent
I agree. I have to wear those XL top just for my belly to fit. It's way to big in the shoulders.

See this is the problem I have with maternity jeans. They won't stay over my belly! I think all maternity designers should re-think their designs. Or maybe we should all become designers!

I have that problem too. I bought a couple of pants for under the belly fit (no band!). I can't wear them. They are only held by the belly. I can only get the pants with bands so they stay in place.

Re: Maternity Clothing Vent
I just bought some maternity T-shirts. They are longer but there is not any extra room around the tummy, when compared to regular t-shirts in the same size. I know that's the look but I figured there would be a difference from my regular T-shirts!!!! Thank G-d my friend gave me some of her maternity T-shirts that look more like they will fit later on.
