Pls. help regarding Maternity Leave....long vent.
I respectfully told my bosses (2 brothers) when I was only 6 weeks pregnant that I was pregnant - just to be honest and open from the beginning, I have been with the co. for 13 years, I am the only girl in the co and the only office worker. I asked 1 month ago @ 6 months pregnant what the maternity policy was - we never have needed one. So he said we could talk soon, now I am 7 months and I need to make plans for daycare, mortgage payments, etc, you all know the deal. Still no answers from either of them. Am I crazy to expect to get paid for my leave from them? I have been working extra hard, coming in early, doing extra work, thinking that it will get me somewhere.
I saved vacation time b/c I don't know what I am entitled to for maternity leave from them, and I would love to use a few day of them, I am soo tired.
how do I ask again without sounding like a PITA? I am stressed by this, it is on my mind 24 / 7.
Thanks girls for any advice you may have!

I was the same way - I'm the only woman working with all men - my boss does not have children. At 6 months I demanded an answer, and got one. You have every right!
Go to the gov page for FMLA - it will list your rights, and if you are legally required to get paid maternity leave.
I believe it's more than 50 employee's, working for more than a year, etc...

You are not legally required to get paid maternity leave. That is up to the company. FMLA only makes them save your job for you.

Re: Pls. help regarding Maternity Leave....long vent.
Unfortunately, I am in a similar boat. I work for a small firm and I get nothing as far as maternity leave is concerned. I was a bit surprised that they aren't paying for any of the time and I was disappointed. Oh, right after I was told I would be getting nothing, they proceeded to tell me how very important I am to the practice and how much I contribute. Gee...thanks!
In the US, I think that being a parent is not seen as a very important job that should be supported across the board. Unlike other countries which have very favorable maternity leave laws in effect, we have the FMLA which isn't much.

Thank you all, even if I am not getting paid a penny, I just need to know and get this out of my mind and take the next step. They said they would set up somewhere in the office for the baby to be with me, so I don't have to use daycare right away, they said I can do some stuff from home, but I need to know this stuff is definate, etc. 13 years here, do EVERYTHING For them, beyond my job title , I even babysit their kids in the office.

You need to keep reminding them that this is important and you need to have an answer so you can start planning ahead. Perhaps refresh their memories by sending an email?
