Maternity Leave...how long do you have to be at a job?
Hi.
I'm getting baby fever, but may want to change jobs.
Would I have to be at a company for at least a year to get maternity leave? Or does it vary?
Thanks. -Sandy

But does this mean that 3 months into your new job you can get pregnant & after your 9 month pregnancy, you would have been at your job a full year.

8 years is a long time. I am just wondering why you want to leave? Sorry if I'm nosey, just tell me to MMOB!

Re: Maternity Leave...how long do you have to be at a job?
I will be at my job just shy of a year when I go on ML but so far, they plan to honor all of my vacation time, disability and FMLA.
I have agreed though to work a modified schedule from home if need be on a P/T basis about a month after giving birth to provide coverage for some things they just won't have anyone else to do, if absolute need arises.
At times I have wanted to leave my employer, but perks like this are just too much of a pro to give up to go elsewhere right now.
I think a big reason my employer is being so lenient w/ me is because they really have no one else willing to do what I do (or who can be trained!!!!!) and they are also constantly afraid of being sued.

You have to be there at least 12 months before you take leave. If you have a normal pregnancy with no complications, you could get pregnant after working for about 3 months and then qualify for FMLA when you give birth. However, if you need to go out earlier and haven't been there for a year, your job may not be protected.

Re: Maternity Leave...how long do you have to be at a job?
Please keep in mind that FMLA is unpaid.
If you're looking for disability leave, that can vary by company & state.
