Social Workers, do you get PAID maternity leave at your job?
Edited to clarify: Curious if any of the social workers out there get paid maternity leave -- *paid by your employer* -- not just through state short-term disability?
Or are you using sick/vacation time plus FMLA?
TIA.

I was paid but only because I used all my time saved.

So you used your accrued vacation &/or sick time, right? There wasn't extra time off given specifically for "maternity leave"?

I thought you were still entitled to NY STD? It does not pay much but it's better than nothing. 6 wks for vaginal delivery, 8 wks for c-section.

Oh, interesting. Yeah, it would definitely be better than nothing. Thanks, Sophie, I'll look into it!

Are you an independent contractor or employee?
STD is paid through my cie so it's more than NY.
I think someone mentioned $170/week with NY STD but don't quote me on that.
Also FMLA could be restricted if the cie has less than 50 people.

I'm an employee, but I would probably just get the benefit from the state. I'm pretty sure that my employer doesn't have extra coverage.
And yes, we're way under 50 employees, so I'm not eligible for FMLA.
I heard someone say $170 as the amount also. It's pretty ridiculous, but better than nothing, like you said!

You can use you time off/sick time in addition to the standard STD but you will not be guaranteed of your job if you don't have FMLA. It depends if you cie is "desperate" to get you back or you risk the chance to be let go.

P.S. If you get let go because you're out on maternity leave, do you then get unemployment benefits?
