Measles and delayed vaccines
I know enough with the vaccine posts....I am just curious.. I just delayed the MMR last FRi Now of course...even though I wasn't at the Source on Thurs..I am worried and questioning my decision.. Does anyone else feel this way..I honestly don't know what to do at this point. I am thinking of asking PMD to split & just give the measles shot..then I have heard those shots are worse with mercury..or should I just give her the MMR. Being a parent is so hard sometimes..I just want to do what is best..but I don't know what is best...Sorry for the long post.

Re: Measles and delayed vaccines
I havent delayed my dd on any vaccines but as of now shes not old enough for the MMR. Not sure what im going to do, but most likely I will be giving her the MMR when my peds feels is the correct time.

Re: Measles and delayed vaccines
(we're just talking about this...)
My PED has a spaced out vaccine schedule (doesn't group many together) to begin with and she does NOT administer the MMR until the babies are 21 months and/or are saying words and walking.
I would have been delaying the MMR no matter what. But happier to know that this is what my PED does.

I am giving Ale all her shots on schedule.
Measles, Mumps or Rubella CAN KILL you child. You don't know what OTHER people have done so unless your child is vaccinated IMO they aren't safe.

this is exactly my train of thought.....knowing that many people delay or split the shot makes it even MORE imperative for me that my dd gets the shot on time

I think everyone should make their own decisions based on facts, which is why I have to respond to this. Mumps and Rubella are not dangerous to children -- rubella is dangerous to pregnant women and mumps can in rare cases cause problems for adults. Not saying there's anything wrong with you deciding to give the vax, but please but please look into this a little more before posting that mumps and rubella can kill children.

ITA. I walked around not immune to MMR for who knows how long (they picked it up when I was pregnant). I have been to China and other developing nations, I could have easily picked it up and brought it back to the US. And it's not even developing nations, there is a huge outbreak in Austria as we type.
My Ped is progressive with his vaccines, so I am comfortable with his schedule.

In the effort to ensure everyone is educated on the matter from both perspectives, here is some more information:
Mumps may not be a known killer, however it can cause swelling of the brain and meningitis, and can cause hearing loss.
As for Rubella-anyone that has a vaccine-eligible kid who is planning of getting pregnant again should ensure that child is vaccinated. A big risk of Rubella is to a fetus if the pregnant mom gets Rubella. It can cause growth and mental retardation to the developing baby, among other things.
There is a proven link between these diseases and the above risks. As such, I will protect my child as best I can by having her vaccinated at the appropriate time. I will not hold off because of an unproven theory that this vaccine can cause autism. I know that it not EVERYONE's reason for delaying the vaccine, but it seems the most prevalent on the board. I don't fault anyone for making a different choice. The bottom line is that everyone needs to make the best decisions they can based on what they know-it's not easy and no matter what we all second guess ourselves.

Mumps can be very dangerous and have long-term effects, but you know what, ear infections can lead to meningitis as well as sinus infections. Alot of people dont know that either.
And in most cases...this I have researched...we have very few if any deaths from these kinds of diseases in the U.S. b/c of our medical facilities and medical care. When people read statistics they automatically think their reading about the U.S. when the numbers we generally see our worldwide. The cause of death from MMR and other diseases is much greater in other countries that dont have the medical facilities and treatments that we have. If one our kids were to god forbid get measles, they would get treatment immediately. In other countries, such as certain parts of Africa, it could be days or weeks which is what can cause the long term effects or death from these diseases. There was another post yesterday about who had what childhood diseases and there were a few girls who had measles, rubella, whooping cough, etc and they seem to be doing just fine.

Re: Measles and delayed vaccines
you have to do what is best for you.. both sides have a point as far as they are concerned..but its your point that matters. I for soome reason no matter how many times they vaccinate me for rubella I come back not immune.. I am not the only one this happens to either. Another issue being...live vaccines are not for everyone--I have to watch when I get them and all that because people with supressed immune systems cannot go near someone with a live vaccine for several weeks after--also..people going through chemo or cancer patients. Just follow your head.. We have had a whopping cough outbreak over here and couldn't believe my eyes when it said u can still get it if vaccinated.. so it does not necessarily mean all sick people are not vaccinated..they do wear off--there were batches that didn't work and so on... sit down with your doc and tt him about your beliefs and fears.

I'm not 100% sure that is accurate. I would speak to your dr. about this. Part of the reason people split up the shots was b/c of the mercury levels, although they say shots today dont have thimerosol...so who knows.

Re: Measles and delayed vaccines
if u want to feel better--ask your doc the maker and website for his shots--they should give it no problem you can look up the ingredients yourself and see if u are comfortable
