I agree too with the others. Theres MORE then the Autism scare involved. Noah will not get the MMR till 18 months and it has NOTHING to do with Autism.
Instead of blaming, these individuals need to find out WHY parents are nto vaccinating and then see what they can do to change that.
Its always about TALK....NEVER ACTION. Now that Hilary is staying in NY I have contacted her office. There is also a NY state Sentator, Maureen O'Connel that is interested in hearing from her constituents on this item.

Re: Measles Cases Grow in Number, and Officials Blame Parents’ Fear of Autism
The autism scare is a piece of the puzzle, but not the whole thing. Foreign travel (especially to countries that don't have the vaccine) happens more and more and with younger and younger people these days. DS has already been on a plane, but I didn't go on one till I was much older, and that was not unusual at all when I was growing up.
As much as vaccines scare me, the diseases scare me more. At this point with the information we have, DS will get his vaccines.

The FDA didnt even apporove Thimerosol free versions of the Engeerix HepB by Glaxosmithlkline until Jan.30, 2007. That means as recently as 2008, some infants may have recived the Hep b, still containing Thimerosol. http://www.fda.gov/cber/approvltr/hepbgsk013007L.htm

I usually try to stay away from these posts because I don't want to start drama or be involved in any but these things scare the heck out of me. I am so worried that my little 7 month old who is not old enough for the vaccination will catch something because of these increase in outbreaks. I can guarantee that as soon as my son is old enough he will be vaccinated. IMO there is a reason that they have been doing it this way for many years.
ITA. This really worries me. Now more than before since DD had Kawasaki and had a blood plasma treatment she is not allowed to get any vaccinations until 9 months after which means she will be 17 months before she can get her MMR. Now I'm sooooo cautious of who she is around and where she goes.

Re: Measles Cases Grow in Number, and Officials Blame Parents’ Fear of Autism
My grandmother called me a couple of weeks ago like she always does telling me stories about shots and autism (and it honestly goes in one ear and out the other). I don't remember exacts but there was a study done on something like 20,00 Amish. Out of the 20K, I think less than five had autism. Out of the few that did have Autism, most of them had shots. I thought it was interesting.

Re: Measles Cases Grow in Number, and Officials Blame Parents’ Fear of Autism
for this article to blame its parents fear of autism is a a load of crap. Maybe because people started to read up and not think doctors are God. There is nothing wrong with spacing. Three injections of a disease in one sitting on a infant is unacceptable. They know it and now people are realizing it. Noone here yet has posted they delay or pick and choose due to autism so i guess it blows that theory out of the water. If Pesticides on fruit build up in their body u do not think live vaccines made with horrible ingredients do not? again...its the almighty buck.

ITA the diseases scare me more so we will get the shots. I dont want to look back and say had I know I would have done xyz. So many people come up to DD and try to touch her--scares the bejesus out of me.
ETA: I can totally understand why some parents choose not to vaccinate--(its greater than autism--multiple reasons for alot of parents)we dont share that view based on the info we currently have and as long as the kids who do not their shots are identified and not around DD its fine by me.

I definitely do not delay b/c of autism. I also buy organic for me & my DS. I think for me, the most I can prevent on my own I will do.

Re: Measles Cases Grow in Number, and Officials Blame Parents’ Fear of Autism
I am in no rush to get the MMR.
Probably a little after his 2nd b-day.
Autism definitely plays a role...
I do believe the shot is a factor, along with biological make up.
I believe in vaccines, at the right time, for the right kids.
I know it drives people crazy, but I did read Jenny's book...I do listen to the moms on Oprah.
I do listen to my dr.
I take in all info and do what I feel is best.
waiting suits me. To watch his first round of shots get pumped into his little chubby legs did something to me. ITs just too much at one time.

thank you ...and I agree 100%.
Believe it or not many kids will be going to school with kids who are NOT vaccinated or have the MMR shot because they can get a letter from their PED, so that is one thing to look at when saying i dont want my kid around others who are NOT vaccinated, they probably will be.
we also need to look at all the moms who said that their child was NOT the "same" after the MMR....why cant studies be done on all these parents claiming that??Are we supposed to ignore that?

Actually when the time comes DD will have a letter saying she "cant" be in a class with kids who dont have their shots--so for parents who dont know you can request this. It works both ways. I am sure when she gets older schools wont be able to honor this but her immune system hopefully will be much stronger and with the grace of God wont come into contact with anything deadly.
I understand totally why parents are cautious--I do get it but I also know that there are consequences to both sides of the issue. I am not against moms who want to delay-I think every parent needs to make the best decision for their kids.

Not to mention that there has already been at least once case of death from the HPV vaccine
I absolutely feel that the HPV vaccine did kill this girl, how terrible! I knew I had heard bad t hings about it.
I personally would NOT let my DD get this. I don't think it is necessary at ALL. We lived all these years without it, I don't see cervical cancer as an epidemic enough to get the vaccine for DD. Plus you contract cervical cancer much harder than a regular virus. It is contracted through sexual activity, which one can control on their own (unlike diseases transmitted by sneezing, coughing, etc).
Same with the Hep B vaccine. I don't know how i feel about it. Hep B has been around for years and most people do recover from Hep B, although I do know it is fairly easy to contract from Saliva, etc. I just don't think it needs to be given at birth...
And what boggles my mind is the chicken pox vaccine. Didn't we all have chicken pox? Did that many children really die of chicken pox that a vaccine was needed? I don't know...I am so torn on this but need to start doing my research b/c the thought of vaccines concerns me.

My beliefs exactly... The HPV vaccine doesn't protect you against all strains of HPV. In fact one of the four major strains that does cause cervical cancer, this vaccine will not protect you from. I think it actually gives parents a false sense of securtiy from what it really is supposed to be protecting their children from. I know of someone who got extremely sick from this vaccine as well. I believe routine paps are the best way to protect a female from cervical cancer.
Why an infant, at birth no less needs Hep B, well I will never understand that unless maybe one of the parents has it? I also don't understand the need for the chicken pox vaccine. I had them... they were gone within a couple of days and I got to miss a week of school when I was in 2nd grade and watched movies all day.
My husband also actually got the measles from the MMR at a young age. This scares me about giving it to my daughter.
I do understand the need for many of the vaccines, but do not understand the need to give so many to a tiny baby in a short amount of time.

Re: Measles Cases Grow in Number, and Officials Blame Parents’ Fear of Autism
I do believe that the majority of people who are concerned, who delay or break up the MMR is DUE to the autism factor. I think that it is also kinda obvious as per the many threads on this site alone.
There is so much about the disease that is unknown. Probably always will be. But the stimatism of autism with those shots is real. And nobody can tell me any different. Sure maybe people have other concerns with the shots, along with all the others. I TOTALLY agree with that as well. As i wish that i did things so much differently with my DS and getting all the shots he did.
But the fear is real and IS connected to the shots whether it be "proven" one way or another that it causes it or not.
THAT IN NO WAY makes me believe it to be the cause for the rise in measles cases soley IMO. There are too many other factors that have lead up to that.
