Measuring 2 weeks

What does measuring 2 weeks ahead mean? My OB says I'm measuring 2 weeks ahead. Does that mean the baby is measuring for 17 weeks instead of 15?? When the OB told me that I didn't even think to ask what it meant.

That's what I would think. I don't know for sure though.

That is exactly what it means.

My cousin measured that way throughout her pregnancy. She is a day overdue and waiting to go into labor.

Don't hold me to this, but I have read that it could mean that. My cousin is looking at a baby at least in the 8lb range.

Re: Measuring 2 weeks

It can mean:
1. that your baby is a bigger than average size baby for the week you are in,
2. that you ovulated earlier than you originally thought pushing your due date up by two weeks (but they will not push it up but if you go 2 weeks early and have a normal sized baby this might be the reason),
3. the machine could be calibrated improperly and your baby is in fact normal sized,
4. the technician miscalculated the measurements thus giving you an incorrect reading,
5. or you might be at risk for gestational diabeties.
I am not a doctor but those are the reasons that I have read on here as being reasons for measuring ahead. HTH

Re: Measuring 2 weeks

My son measured two weeks ahead the entire time....in my head I was convinced he would come early because of this when in actuality I was induced 12 days late....also - he was almost 10lbs! Chat Icon
