Re: Medela PIS parts
Honestly replacing just the parts is not recommended on anything below hospital grade. Even if you replace the tubing/parts milk could be collected in the actual machine. I just wanted to share b/c I didn't know this at first, and was informed by my lactation consultant. I planned on using a friends too, but am not willing to risk infection. KWIM.

Yup- this "recommendation" also applies to not replacing parts on or using your own pump between kids, which would be ridiculously expensive (to get a new pump for each baby). So while I had a lactation consultant tell me that, I used to go to a breastfeeding support group & the LCs there all sort of thought it was bs, personally, I think Medela is going to make less money if everyone is sharing pumps, if milk is getting ino the machine, something's not right-you'll see when you look at the pump that it can't really happen...if you do decide to borrow a pump, you need to replace the tubing, the breast shields & the valves/membranes. ETA: the valves & breast shields may be available at BBB or BRU, but the tubes are harder to find. I got them at a place in Manhattan called the Upper Breast Side.
