Medical Bill on Credit Report
I recently discovered that I have a very small (under $150) medical bill that was sent to collection that is on my credit report and hurting my score. I *would* just pay it, but I know for a fact I do not owe this bill. It is a bill from when I was taken to the ER immediately from the scene of a car accident. So I know that my insurance company should have picked this up (they picked up all the subsequent medical bills associated with the accident). Does anyone know the best way to go about getting this taken care of?
Should I contact my car insurance company? Should I write a letter to the collection agency? Should I just pay it?
AND.....if I just go ahead and pay it, how will my credit score be affected?

Start with the insurance company and go from there.

do not pay it. Call the insurance company and start from there. How old is the collection? after 7 years it will drop off. If its close to the 7 years i would just wait it out. If you pay the bill it will show as a satisfied collection and the time line will start again and remain on your report for another 7 years.
