Meetup/Support Group on June 21st
As I mentioned in a previous post, I am looking for a support group for parents of children with special needs. Someone suggested starting one, so I am going to give it a try. I have reserved a meeting room at Panera in West Babylon at 6:30pm on June 21st (Friday night). I would like to start a regular meetup/support group for parents with children of special needs. My daughter was diagnosed with PDD-NOS (although I think the bigger issue for her is SPD and developmental delays) and I am having a hard time finding other parents that understand what I am going through. I am a little hesitant to use the term "support group" because I have been on this journey for only 4 months, so the experience, information, and resources I have to offer is limited. But I would like to offer any emotional support and share whatever I can with other parents that are dealing with issues relating to this. So if you have a child with special needs and would like to share your story with other parents dealing with children special needs, please come to Panera in West Babylon on June 21st at 6:30pm. If you plan on coming, please let me know.

My DS has swim class at Tanger until 6.
If I come, my kids would come too (if thats OK) since i'm over there anyway.
I can offer advice support for PDD-NOS and Down Syndrome.

Sure, that's fine. I had originally envisioned the group to be just parents without kids so we could focus completely on ourselves, but since the group seems to be so small, it should be fine. Hope to see you there!

Great. It's true, the traffic is terrible. If you do come, what time do you think you may get there so I know to be on the lookout?

Unfortunately, no one came. Guess it wasn't a good time to have the meeting.

Yikes.
Sorry to hear that.
IMO, you may have a better turnout if you do it on the weekend.
I really wanted to be there but Friday nights can be tough just with traffic getting home from work.
Since it's summer and everyone is also starting to have commitments, maybe a morning get together would work well too.

I tried so hard but I ended up having to baby sit a lot later then planned... I didn't think it would have been a wise idea for me to bring my 3 year old son and my friends kids who are 8 (with severe ADHD) and 10... I am so sorry!

Its ok guys. I understand how hard it is when there is so much happening with the family and work. Anyone have any ideas about a different day that could work? I could do a weekend, but I feel like most people like to spend time with their families on the weekend. And the summer makes it that much harder. I wouldn't mind trying again, but I would want to make sure that it would work for some people.

Hi, I'd be down to give this a go. Definitely update this when you decide on a day, I don't know I feel like for most ppl Tues, Wed nights work. Not immediately before or after weekend, can get away a little bit at nighttime, just my two cents.

Hi, if you ever try to do this again, I would definitely go. I belong to a different type of meetup group and 8/8:30pm during the week seems to work well for us because we are able to leave the house after dinner/bedtime. Weekends are good for me too even though most people might be busy during the summer.
