Mentoring
Hi- Okay, so I’m looking to get my literacy professional certification (I have an expired initial certificate). NYS is NOT making this easy. Not only can you not reach a human person without waiting for over an hour when I call NYSED, they don’t even answer your questions when you DO reach someone.
So it looks like I need proof of mentoring from my first year of teaching. Uummm, I truly don’t remember having a mentor (it was circa 2003 so who knows). I never logged any mentoring hours, I’m sure of that.
Has anyone ever gotten their professional certification without ever having been mentored, or am I screwed here?

Can you contact your district from 2003. They should have a record of it if you were mentored. I was mentored in 2006. Not sure when it became a requirement.

Thanks so much. I FINALLY got my answer after much frustration...turns out I don't need mentoring. I'm not quite sure why but thank goodness!!
