Met Gala Fashion
This event it is expected for people to go outside the box and be a little avant garde... that's what people expect from the attendees. I, for one loved all the unusual looks and was honestly quite bored with the regular dresses. Is it something I'd wear... no. Is it something we'll see other than this event... probably not. I find the fabrics and shapes pretty cool. It's meant to be art. I enjoyed the different looks, but maybe thats just me.

Re: Met Gala Fashion
Ok...so all the gowns that we hate like the Rhi Rhi, Katy Perry, Rita Ora and Pharell Williams wife...those dresses are true to the theme unfortunately. The theme was Comme des Garçons’s Rei Kawakubo, so basically architectural fashion of which they hit on the nail. It's unfortunately weird and un-flattering.

Exactly! It's not supposed to be normal! Every "normal" dress gets a big fat LAME from me, no matter how good they may have looked. Save it for the Oscars.
I have no idea what the theme was this year.. anyone know? I need to look it up.

I didn't realize this was theme and I know it's expected to go outside the box, but my god these are awful.
ETA: How is a bubble jacket with a 3 foot train architectural, ya know? I'm looking at you Solange.

This year's theme was asymmetrical. Yes, many of the looks are 'out there' and extreme but that's the point! I love the Met Gala fashion. It's crazy and wild. I feel like not like every other boring award show fashion.

Met Gala Fashion
The theme this year was designer Rei Kawakubo and Rihanna wore one of her dresses. Agree that the "pretty" dresses were boring and had no place at this year's gala. Take that stuff to the Oscars! I can't wait until the dresses are in display at the MET - I want to see the crazy outfits up close!
You should have included Blake Lively's dress - it was gold chains with a peacock feather train - she looked stunning!

I didn't see it until just now! That is out there, too, but GORGEOUS! Edgy doesn't have to be ugly.

I'm sorry but it's HORRIBLE. And so are her up to her hoo-ha, too tight laced shoes!
ETA: Apparently I should've gone into fashion design.

Trust me - I wouldn't wear 99% of what they wore last night and some stuff was whack-a-do, but I can appreciate the avant garde ideas that go into making formal wear that's out of the box. I think the MET gala is typically the place that those whacky ideas are embraced and anyone not following the theme just seems like they're dressing "normal" so they can be on someone's best dressed list.

She looks like I picture Blanche DuBois from A Streetcar named Desire, when they shine the light on her face. Not a good look, since she looks 40 years older than she is.
Also, I LOL'd when I saw the woman with Pharrell wearing the red dress and boots. Some of these are hideous.

This, exaclty!
You don't go to the Met Ball to dress in a normal outfit.

Re: Met Gala Fashion
I feel like every year we go through this how ugly all the dresses are etc.
But that I figure is the point of it to go with a theme and in result most dress will not be your typical fashion.

Is it bad that I actually prefer to look at the backgrounds of these kinds of event pics?
For example, what happened to the guy on the steps in Jennifer Connelly's pic? Did he get caught up in Solange's conveyor belt and trip?
