RIP - Mets 2005
You can't expect to win when there has been so little hitting in the past couple of weeks.
(I'll still watch them though)

And the Yanks had the lead over Tampa Freakin Bay. LOL And they lost it. Whats their record against Tampa Bay and Kansas City?
Teams will win tough games... and they will lose tough games. Part of the game.

You did mention us blowing a big lead sweetie. was it terrible? yes of course and inexcusable.
But which is more terrible blowing a 8-0 lead in a regular season game or blowing 3 games to none lead in a playoff series?
I know this isn't about the Yanks but I had to throw that in there since you mentioned leads being blown...

Ouch! Low Blow
Seriously though, I have no confidence in the Mets scoring a good number of runs over a few game stretch. They had plenty of chance to score runs in the past few days and came up short. Beltran has only had a handful of clutch hits this season, Floyd is in a slump and Matsui is useless. On Monday, Beltran stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded. A perfect chance to do something big. Instead, he swings at a 3-1 pitch (out of the strike zone) and weekly pops up to Right Field.

I was only teasing her. I meant no harm.
You are absolutely right about what you just said about them not scoring runs. when they are in their slump boy that's it...it's not a good time to be in a slump but what are you gonna do?
That's the season folks...it's done...

THAT IS BECAUSE this thread was about them LOSING...and bad hitting....
and i was DEFENDING THEM.... THEY ARE HITTING if they can be up 8 RUNS....
SO THEY ARE HITTING.
IT IS THE RELIEVING/CLOSING....IMO that you all should be B!tching about.....HENCE WHY I BROUGHT THAT UP
What they yanks have to do with anything is BEYOND ME.....
I wasn't comparing the two....and for Met fans to pull that out of their butt is silly

Re: Met's are done...
Red:
On August 24th, the Mets scored 18 Runs. Since then:
8/25 - 3 8/26 - 1 8/27 - 1 8/28 - 1 8/30 - 6 * 8/31 - 2 9/1 - 1 9/2 - 2 9/3 - 4 9/4 - 7 * 9/5 - 2 9/6 - 1
Only two games in the last two weeks have they scored over four runs. This isn't good enough for a team in the playoff hunt.
Though I love the Mets (ask anyone who knows me), I'm also a realist. I see no sign that things are going to turn around soon.

You are correct, the bullpen needs help too. However, when the team isn't scoring the Mets are down before they even go for the 'pen.

I still think i see the talent there.... The team has the ability to hit....
they DO NOT have the ability to close a game.

There is no way we would survive the playoffs with the closers we have.
I would be so stressed out over it...

Re: Met's are done...
Seriously I have said this all season long that As much as I would love to see my Mets in the playoffs or the World Series, they would get killed in the playoffs. There is no way we would survive it with our bullpen...absolutely no way...
We have weak closers! Can you imagine any game 7 in the playoffs where you need a good closer to come in and save the game and Looper comes in?????????????????????? I would have to do something violent like throw my tv out the window...

I think we have to put things in perspective here. This was a rebuilding year. After the woes of the past few seasons, I'm happy they are playing .500 (or slightly better) ball. We need to improve, but the foundation is getting there.
I have ZERO faith in the bullpen and haven't for a long time. I wasn't a fan of Benitez, but I don't think Looper is any better.

God Damm Red its so easy to get you riled up.
Any team will score 8 runs in a single game. That doesn't mean they are a good "hitting" team. Thats really dumb to call the Mets a "good hitting team" because of one game.
Hell we scored 31 runs in back to back games? Does that mean we have a team full of "Ruths" and "Mantles"? LOL No.
And I will say it again... the Mets closer... actually isn't that bad. He only has FIVE blown saves on the year. He has a WHIP of under 1.4. Do you know how many blown saves Mariano has? FOUR. One Less.
The Mets need a new closer for the sole reason of moving Looper to the righty setup role. Looper OWNS right handed batting. He just ***** against the Leftys.
The one (and ONLY) answer to this problem IMO is BJ Ryan. He would fit the Mets like a glove. Lefty closer. Overpowering stuff. Not old. We get Ryan... Looper becomes the righty setup guy. Its the perfect scenario. It almost makes TOO much sense that the Mets would be too stupid NOT to do it.
But this is the "NEW" Mets Management and I will have faith because so far they have made all the RIGHT moves.

Bedda:
Listen real closely. ANY team (and I mean ANY team) that makes the playoffs has a chance to win.
The Playoffs are not about having the BEST team. Its about having the HOTTEST team. ESPECIALLY when it comes to pitching.
How the hell do you think the last couple of World Series have been won by teams like Arizona, Florida, and Anaheim? None of those teams were TOP NOTCH teams. Hell even Boston was a WC team not expected to win the World Series.
All those teams got HOT at the right time... with very AVERAGE pitching. Can you even name me the CLOSER that Anaheim, Florida, and Arizona used during those championship years? Probably not cause they weren't ALL-STARS.
The goal is to just make the playoffs... and hope your team gets hot at the right time.

i hate to say this but i am a mets fan our closing pitcher looper is useless he gives up the games we need a new closing pitcher and we need to get rid of him. if they keep him we will keep on losing.
