Mexico Experts, I need help...
I have been doing research and I am pretty postive we want to go to the Rivera Maya or Playa Del Carmen. If I am reading the map correctly, you can take a ferry ride from Playa Del Carmen to Cozumel for the day.
I am confused about exactly what entails the Riveria Maya, does it inlcude Play del Carmen.
Where would you recommend to stay? I want all inclusive, good snorkleing, good food and more of a couple place.

We are going to Playa Del Carmen in a few weeks. We are staying at Iberostar. Check it out.
www.iberostar.com
I'm not sure how far it is from Cozumel though. Sorry!
ETA: I have heard great things about Iberostar. Also about Secrets Excellence, and there is one other resort that I can't remember the name of right now.

Re: Mexico Experts, I need help...
Hi, we just went to Playa del Carmen in May- its a great place. We usually go once a year because we love it and its close & relatively safe with wonderful beaches. WE feel vcery comfortable there because I spent 2 1/2 years living in Cancun( dh & I met there- even though we were both from NY)
I know you want to do an allinclusive, but, there are a lot of great restaurants in Playa so if you can try to get out for 1 or 2 dinners - its such a fantastic little town.
I highly recommend a restaurant called "Negrasal"- its italian the food was just as good as any italian restaurant in NYC. The owner of the restaurant imported every tile, chandelier, placemats from Italy- pretty impressive. they also had great wine. (I'll find the address for you and edit this post)
You can get the ferry right in the middle of the town to Cozumel, its very easy- they sell tickets right there.
We stayed @ the Iberostar a few years ago and it was very nice. The past few years we have rented villas instead of hotels but I also hear that The Royal Hideaway is really nice as Diana has posted.
Also, I will share a little secret with you :
Our favorite beach is in the Tulum area, its called Playa Paradiso- not too many people- looks like a Corona commercial- if you are interested let me know and I will give you directions.
Please feel free to post or fm me if you have any specific questions.
Have fun & enjoy!

Riviera Maya includes Playa, Cozumel and Tulum I think. DH and I went last year for our anniversary, but we stayed at my timeshare- Mayan Palace. I just wanted to tell you that you will have a wonderful time!!!

Re: Mexico Experts, I need help...
Riveria Maya is the general name for the area...Playa Del Carmen is a little town in Riveria Maya. Cozumel is its own island and is not part of the Riveria Maya area.
Some hotels that are nice in the Riveria Maya area are: Iberostar Pariso Maya, Iberostar Pariso Lindo, Iberostar Pariso Del Mar, the RIU's are nice, Royal Hideaway, Secrets Excellence, Secrets Capri Riveria, Occidenal Grand Xcaret, Paradisus

Re: Mexico Experts, I need help...
Mexico, specifically Riviera Maya info:
The Riviera Maya (also known as the Yucatan Peninsula) is the "towns" that the Mayans lived in around the beach...hence the term "Riviera" they are:
Cancun Playa del Carmen Akumal Cozumel Tulum and others...see map below...the difference is that some parts face the Caribean Sea (Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Cozumel) and others have lagoons or face the Gulf
Here's a link if you guys want to learn more about it, I just don't want anyone being mis-informed and making decisions based on non-facts. Have a great trip!

Riveria Maya
I just went to Riveria Maya last week. It was fabulous! We had such a good time. We stayed at an all-inclusive resort and it was so nice and so much fun. The resort was beautiful and the people couldn't be nicer. We stayed at the Occidental XCarat. FM me if you want more details.
