Re: Michael Moore's 'Sicko'
Fox news called it "Brilliant."
Never thought I'd see the day when they liked something Michael Moore did.
I personally love him - but I think his best work was Roger and Me. Fahrenheit 9/11 turned a lot of people off from him - but I think that documentary is more of an aberration from his previous work.

Re: Michael Moore's 'Sicko'
What people who are anti- Michael Moore seem to forget is that this is his opinion of an issue. I have listened to many of his interviews and he clearly states that his documentaries are just his opinions. So of course they are going to be one-sided. You could easily make a film showing the flip side of what he is saying. So if you don't like his opinion, don't see his movie.

I didn't think you could call a movie based on an opinion a documentary which is supposed to be based on actual events and facts. He twists things around so much and by calling it a documentary implies it is based on fact - I think that's deceptive which is why I wouldn't see his films.

I am not going to see any of his movies.
I am merely stating my opinion of his opinons, which I am sure is allowed and doesn't follow under the "if you don't like it, don't read/see/hear/smell/taste/touch it" clause

Re: Michael Moore's 'Sicko'
sicko is the least controversial of his documentaries - it's not partisan to say that the health care system in this country is not working as well as it should.

remember the poor woman who died at the hosptial a week or 2 ago b/c they wouldn't help her
I don't have the answers to fixing it- and I don't think MM does either- but he is gettting the conversation going- which is more then anyone else is doing

So, the fact that he did not actually walk into a bank and walk out the same day with a gun without a background check, as he depicted in in Bowling for Columbine, is his opinion? No, he staged it to look that way b/c he thought it was more sensationalistic to lie about what REALLY happened. Even he has come back to say it didn't happen as he depicted it. (They in fact did do a background check)
(ETA - and I'm FOR gun control, don't get me wrong... but what happened at the bank was bad enough as is. I don't get why he had to edit it to look different)
I don't dislike him for his opinions - he's entitled to them, and on some points I agree with him. I disagree with the way he gets his message across.
OF COURSE documentaries are slanted. They are supposed to give an opinion - take a position. I believe some of the things in his movies cross a line, that's all.
I'm not trying to shut him up - I think he has a right to keep making movies and say whatever he wants to say. I just don't care for him anymore. I'm over him.
ETA - And it's worth adding that facts and statistics can always be manipulated to prove a certain side's position, etc. I don't dispute that. I do understand his facts in this film checked out. I'm just over him and the sensationalism. He is especially annoying to me when I agree with him because I often feel what he does is a step backwards for his cause.
But to each his own - at least he's doing SOMETHING. Many people are just sitting around letting the world happen and not questioning anything. I just personally would go about it in a different way is all.

I cannot stand Michael Moore. He's an opportunist and a sensationalist, much like Al Sharpton, in my opinion.
One of the biggest problems with our healthcare system extends from our legal system...the fact that we SUE left and right.
malpractice insurance and liability ins for doctors and hosptials is literally through the roof.
you'd be surprised how many people in countries with "socialized" healthcare come here for treatment (Cananda is a big one)
Holland and it's population cannot be compared wit the US and it's population.
If you want socialized medicine, you are also asking for higher taxes. which will be according to your pay, like all taxes are. and then, it'll be just like Medicaid and Medicare. and you will be treated like everyone else. Yes, even you, with your fancy car and nice house, will be treated like the crack whore from the corner.
it'd be interesting to see how long that particular social program was popular.
Well said, if 1/2 of the people would stop suing because they stubbed their toe in Pathmark maybe Healthcare would be more affordable. If I see one more advertisement for "If you have been injured in an accident" commerical I will We need serious tort reform so Drs can practice medicine w/o all the pressures of worrying about malpractice suits. Go out and get a damn job people and stop trying to figure out ways to get rich quick w/o working for it!
