1-how old was your dog when they got it?

2 of my cats had it done when they were neutered, so 6 months, the other two were older, one was like maybe 10 and one was about 2.

2-how much did it cost

I don't remember

3-where did you go to have it done?

My regular vet

4-what type/brand of chip did you get

Mine are Avid http://avidmicrochip.com/ There’s an FAQ section there, too which you may want to check out

5-does anyone know the differences between the different types of chips?

I think there are 2 major brands, I just went with what my vet had

6-any pain involved?

It didn't hurt me at all! Chat Icon Seriously, though, mine were under anesthesia, so I am sur it didn't bother them. It's inserted with a needle and it's about the size of a grain of rice, so I am sure it wasn't a painful process for them

Not sure yet

5-does anyone know the differences between the different types of chips?

No
6-any pain involved?

Not for my dog he will be out due to his neutering

Re: microchip ????

Lola had it done last week while she was getting spayed. She is 13 months old. I'm not sure which brand she got, whatever the vet put in her, I dont know if she was in any pain as she was spayed, chipped and had 2 puppy teeth removed at the same time and we had her on pain killers for a few days. It was $50 for the chip

Katie had it done at 6 months old when she was spayed. It cost $50. Vet said its not painful, its just like getting a shot.
For $50 I think it's worth it if she ever got lost and her collar came off.

1-how old was your dog when they got it?

She got it at the pet store (we rescued her from a couple who had bought her at a pet shop - not knowing anything about Weimies but thinking she was cute Chat Icon)

2-how much did it cost

It was free, but it was $125 for me to register my name and address with the company

3-where did you go to have it done?

It can be done at any veterinarian or shelter

4-what type/brand of chip did you get

Misty has an Avid chip

5-does anyone know the differences between the different types of chips?

I posted about the Avid vs. HomeAgain chips. Both are pretty much the same. The issue is that if a shelter/vet has one scanner it doesn't pick up the other chip at all.
There is a new scanner and new chips, but most agencies don't have the new scanner yet and it's very expensive for the scanner.

6-any pain involved?

No, it's tiny and they inject it with a needle

It's a great idea, even with the two different systems. IF you dog/cat loses it's collar you still have an excellent chance of them being returned to you with a chip.Chat Icon

ETA: for all of you with chips - make sure you register your name, address and phone with the chip company otherwise it's useless. Especially if your vet moves or closes for some reason.

Re: microchip ????

-how old was your dog when they got it? 2yrs old. jack just got his this past w/e

2-how much did it cost $30

3-where did you go to have it done? Petco -Saturday clinic

4-what type/brand of chip did you get
from 24PetWatch. Its a universal one. We took jack to the vet & they checked it...heard the beep beep that it was there.

5-does anyone know the differences between the different types of chips? no

6-any pain involved? Jack was fine. A bit more laid back that evening, but no issues at all.

reason we chip'd - fearful of Jack getting lost & collar comes off.

Re: microchip ????

1-how old was your dog when they got it?

They were both 8 weeks old.

2-how much did it cost

I'm really not sure, it was part of the adoption fees.

3-where did you go to have it done?

They were chipped by the vet at the shelter, but I know my regular vet does it too.

4-what type/brand of chip did you get

Avid.

5-does anyone know the differences between the different types of chips?

I don't but I'm sure if you google it you could find this info.

6-any pain involved?

If you mean during the procedure, I couldn't tell you b/c they had it done while they were being fixed. As for living with it, no, it doesn't seem to bother them one bit.

Holden and Bella came chipped. We got Denver chipped at his 1 year vet visit. I think it was around $50.
