Mild Autism w/ Moderate Mr. Early Intervention & Seit, Kindergarden schools for Autism.
We are looking at DDI in Medford for our almost three year old son. However due to his birthday we are able to keep him in EI and go through seit for a year.
If we decied to do that he will be blocked from DDI for september of next year and I am not big on Developmental programs since he will need a 6:1 next year.
Have any of you kept your child home until they where four and then went to a developmental program 1/2 day Plus Aba?
Is anybody formulier With Three Villiage School Distrect and there Autistic programs? Has anybody had a child do Aba and go into Self Contained or Inclusion in kindergarden in any schools on long Island.
If So How Many years ABA and what was your childs diagnoises or vice versa other programs.
Distance is also a concern I am on the North Fork and the programs arent good here.

Re: Mild Autism w/ Moderate Mr. Early Intervention & Seit, Kindergarden schools for Autism.
DS started ABA at 15 months old.. then he turned 2 in August, and 3 weeks later he started a 1/2 day program 3x a week (i felt he was too young to go 5 days a week) with 10 ABA home sessions, 3 speech & 3 OT.
he will be 3 in Aug, and in Sept he will have a full day program, 5 days a week with 3 hours of "general" services at home. even if we wanted a half day, they district would NOT provide us with additional in home services like he receives through EI.
does this help or was i way off the subject?

Christopher started EI services at 18 months. When he was 2, we wanted more, so we looked into programs. He is now at Building Blocks in Commack. We havent looked into DDI in Medford, because in order to see the place there needs to be an opening. Plus, he has a lot of sensory issues, and DDI doeasnt give OT services. I cant wait till he goes to Kindergarten. I live in Longwood, and we have an AMAZING ABA program that has been in our elementary school for over 7 years. I hear the teachers are amazing. I am all for putting them in a program the earlier the better. I cant tell you how much my son has thrived from being in a routine, and socializing. Is there an opeing at DDI now for him?

Thanks for Replying. DDI does contract with an ot but your right its not a direct Ot that comes into DDI. Its the teacher assistants who do the Ot.
I saved at spot for him at DDI but he has 25hours total at home right now. He has three aba teachers, One Ot, One ABA speech, and one Pt.
He also does alot of activites outside of the house with the teachers and I in order to help his socialiazation.
DDI is fourty minutes from us. We have been getting services since he was one year and ABA since he was two.
What is your son's diagnoises if you dont mind me asking?

So your son will be getting ABA at home after school five days a week? Is that right? Is it a ABA program as well during the days of school?
Do you mind if I ask what school and his diagnoises?

Christopher's diagnosis is PDD-NOS. He gets ABA, speech and OT at Building Blocks. He also gets ABA at home 2 hours a day for 5 days a week.

through EI he goes to school and still has 2 ABA sessions a day (it's actually 9 sessions now)
he also gets his OT & speech at home.
his school is ACDS and he has "Classic Autism"
when he enters CPSE he will get 3 hours of "general" services (aka parent training/aba) after school

Same here! DS gets 90 mins. of ABA at home, then goes to school (Building Blocks) for EI "socialization" class, OT, and Speech. He's there 4 hours a day M-F. He gets 2 hours of ABA at school as well.
Class: 90 min. ABA : 2 hours Speech Or OT (they alternate): 30 mins.
I have not one complaint about Building Blocks! DS has come a long way!

hmm I havent heared of them. But that is a huge distance for me. Ot and speech at home that gives me an idea also.
There is a boy out here who also has classic autism and is in a program that isnt working out I guess. However the parents I hear are happy with it.
They dont think my son has Classic autism but I see he relates better to children with Autism.

He was non-verbal before he started. We also do 1 x a week with a PROMPT specialist. He has some nice sounds, and is imitating and labeling things. He also uses PECS.

CPSE children usually do not get in home services if they were approved for a school program, but will get services at sights if they arent in a school program.
i hope that made sense.

Yes it does thank you. We will be getting an estimate on our house tomorrow. As we have pretty much decided on a school and now may have to move.

Our CPSE/IEP will have DS on a FT school program and 2 hours of ABA/Sped Ed every day, 5 times per week after school. So yes, you can get home services even if you are with a school program. Depends on your district, how "prepped" you are for those meetings, know your rights, how much you fight for it and on how "generous" they get.
We also got those ABA home services to be maintained if school is closed (Holiday break, vacations) for more than 4 days.
I heard building block was a great school, especially for children with mild cases and "borderline".
