Milk Protein Allergy and Formula Question

Hi,

My daughter was diagnosed with a milk protein allergy two days ago. She was and has been throwing her legs back in pain, crying (not high pitched), whining, wincing in pain. It appears to be abdominal pain. We started her on Almentum two days ago.

For those of you with children with Milk Protein Allergies....how long till you saw relief with the change of formula??

Those with kids on Alimentum--where do you find the cheapest price?

My dds been on alimentum for 3 weeks now. it took about a week to really see difference.. Im still having issues with excema, my dd goes to peds next week.. so well see if were stickign with this. Depends on her weight.

So far Ive only been able to find at BRUs and its $53 for the 6 dollar pack and lasts about 6 days.. its killing my wallet. Were trying to get insurance to pay.

DS is on Nurtamigen, & was also diagnosed with a Milk Protein Allergy.

I saw an improvement after 3 days and he was like a new baby after a week.

I haven't found it "cheap" anywhere, but I have found that Diapers.com sells it for the same price as Target and they deliver it for free.

I still have to check if BJs carries it.

also my peds told me it takes 2 weeks for the milk protein that she had in past to leave her system.. so your may still be feeling the effects from those feedings with.

Alot of babies recently are coming up with this milk protein allergy.. or I just didnt notice until my dd became one of them.

call your insurance company... a lot of them will cover the formula for a milk allergy!

My DS was diagnosed too. He was on Nutramigen for a week and they still found blood in his poop so they switched him to Elecare. Its the most expensive formula out there.

We, too, are in the process of getting insurance to cover it.

Its 189.00 for 6 14 ounces of formula and thats directly from the company. If ordered from the pharmacy its much more. Its only available through prescription or the company direct.

My claim was denied too. They said there must be MULTIPLE allergies (so a milk protein allergy wouldn't be enough I guess)?

I was going to ask my Pediatrician to revise the note he wrote and appeal their decision, but I sort of didn't know if my Pediatrician would get annoyed.

Does your dc have soy allergy also?

Im still fighting to get alimentum covered, dd had allergy to the prosobee also, so hoping this will be enough but I doubt it. Im thinking GI is the best way to get these approved.

eta: Its your peds job.. to help your DC.. so dont worry about them getting annoyed. They deal with this all the time.. they should know exactly what to write.

I had to do authos for my patients at my old job all the time.. After your first couple of times doing, you know exactly what they want to hear and its a snap.

I just wanted to give you a heads up about Apria. They are fabulous! I called Apria Healthcare (1-877-536-8372 - they are a supplier) and you give them your insurance info and they contact your insurance and find out for you. You just need to get an Rx from your doctor. They ship it right to your house.

How long did it take before you heard back from them? I submitted my info to them on tuesday,I confirmed they got it.

Also thank you for that info. When i tried to do myself through insurance, they gave me all wrong info.. now its been 3 weeks worth of $$ spent..

Alimentum and Regular Nutramigen still have milk protein in them-further broken down but still there. My son could not handle any of these. Once we put him on nutramigen AA(amino acid-this is what elecare and neocate are) he did great-no reflux at all.
