Milk Protein Allergy moms past & present HELP!!!!

Well it seems as thou my DD has a milk protein allergy.

We started her on Similac Alimentum last week and she hasn't gotten better.

The Dr. Suggested we try Enfamil Nutramigen but after 24 hours she's even worse.

I guess our next step is the prescription formulas.

I wanted ask you all about your experiences w/ the different formulas and what your DC was like...symptom wise.

I'm starting to worry that it may be something more serious.

TIA ladies!!!

It took me almost 3 weeks to see a significant difference with the Nutramigen. I know many girls say they saw a difference right away, but I did not. I remember calling the doctor saying she was refusing to eat it, she was still crying in pain, etc. They kept telling me I had to give it 2 weeks. She was a new baby after 3 weeks.

If you are nervous that it's not working just ask your ped.

I hope your DD feels better soon.Chat Icon

ETA: How is your DD acting? DD never rashed or had blood in her stool. My DD would scream, I mean scream, after every bottle and would have diarrhea so bad it would never stay in the diaper. It was water.

Chat Icon I BF, but an instant rash around his ears always lets me know I ate something that I should not have.

The Similac and Enfamil Hypoallergenic formulas are pretty much the same.

My DD was on Nutramigen, and now Elecare - which is a prescription formula.

Honestly, I would go with your gut. If you don't think that the Nutramigen is working, ask your dr to prescribe either Neocate or Elecare. They are powder hypoallergenic formulas used for infants/toddler's/tweens with severe food allergies, EE, etc.

When my DD was an infant she had severe eczema, would scream thru every feeding, and was constantly congested. She also had blood/mucous in the stools. Allergy testing at 10 months proved that she was so allergic to milk proteins that I don't know how she survived during those first few weeks of life.

Chat Icon 's -- I really mean it when I say to trust your gut. Everyone thought I was crazy when I thought my DD had a milk allergy as an infant. I really think my ped prescribe the Nutramigen just to shut me up. Now at 2 years old she has so many severe food allergies that feeding her is a challenge.

Thank you for responding!

She cries so hard sometimes and will fall asleep and wake herself up because she's in pain. We thought it was just gas and started her on the gas drops.

They helped a little but then we started seeing blood in her stool.
The Dr. Suggested the similac or enfimal but she hasn't gotten better and now she spits up more then before. With the Nutramigen she wouldn't finish her bottles all the time & spit up a lot more.

I switched back to the similac until tomorrow when I will have the Dr. Prescribe the other formula.

Thanks again for your responses I really hope the prescription formula works and it's not something more.
