Mill's Pride Cabinets
DH works in an apartment complex and told me they use Mill's Pride cabinets.
We need to desperately redo our kitchen and we have to buy cabinets (we can't reface since we have no wall cabinets above the counter..so we have to buy!). At first I wanted KraftMaid but they are a bit expensive, but I figured worth it for durability. Then DH was saying lets go with Ikea, I was against it at first, then I warmed up to the idea because many people say they are durable and inexpensive. And I can get a nicer backsplash and countertop if we go w/ Ikea cabinets.
So now he's on about Mill's Pride. I checked the website, seems to be similar to Ikea cabinets.
How do they stack up durability-wise? If anyone has cabinet by them or knows about them please let me know. thanks!

Re: Mill's Pride Cabinets
Hi! I have never posted on this board before, but do lurk. With regard to Mills Pride cabinets, I put them in my mud/laundry room about four years ago, and absolutely love them. Beside looking great, they have proved to be very durable, and this is saying alot as these cabinets are chock full of very heavy items (detergents, etc.). I don't know how they stack up in regard to other cabinets, maybe check out consumer reports or garden web forums?

Re: Mill's Pride Cabinets
I'm not sure about the Mills Pride cabinets but I have read and heard from numerous sources that Ikea cabinets are very durable. As a matter of fact one magazine I read a while ago had an article on a chef (don't remember his name) who renovated his kitchen. He used Ikea cabinets and decided to go high end with the appliances and countertops. Good luck and happy renovating!

Re: Mill's Pride Cabinets
We used Mill's Pride Cabinets in our co-op. I really loved them because they were able to be wiped clean when they got a little dirty. I think they are good quality...
Edited to add a picture of my mill's pride cabinets... Image Attachment(s):

Re: Mill's Pride Cabinets
I renovated a few houses and started several years ago. Last year I completed my 6th kitchen renovation
My experience with Mill's Pride is not a very good one. I'd use them in a flip or an apt. but not in house that I intended to live in for 15-30 years.
I put them in the kitchen of my father's basement about ten years ago and they have not held up. They are pretty good for five years or so but long term, with normal wear and tear, they begin to warp, doors get loose, etc.
My FIL is a kitchen designer. Not a week goes by when a customer with a fairly new (10 years or less, some less than 5 years) Mill's Pride kitchen calls him and has to replace their kitchen because the cabinets are warping, etc. It's sad because they already spent so much money but need to do it again.
I'd spend the extra money and get the higher quality cabinets as they are a long term investment.

Re: Mill's Pride Cabinets
My DH is a contractor( and has been a dealer for Consumer kitchens & baths for years) & we put a similar product in our house. When we bought it we weren't really planning to demo the kitchen so we didn't have a big budget. We went with the "stock" cabinets from Home depot that take three days to get, they come in three finishes-oak, maple or white & the advantage is they are already assembled. My DH has installed tons of mills pride in accessory apartments, mud rooms & so on, he has found that the assembly is time consuming & when he has seen stuff assembled by homeowners it often has that warped look. If you don't get everything perfectly square you get a crappy finished product. However when assembled properly they look good & work well. We are in our house almost three years, we have kids, we cook at home 98% of the time & we entertain big crowds very often, so my kitchen gets a ton of use. My cabinets look exactly as they did three years ago. Sure real wood cabinets are beautiful, but we only spent $5000 including demo, walls, flooring, electrical, plumbing, cabinets, counters, appliances, lighting, paint. So if in another 3-5 years we have to redo it again I still think we got much more than our money's worth.

Re: Mill's Pride Cabinets
we put them in the bathroom of our old house and with months the doors on the vanity were overlapping and not meeting up.
I have heard great things about Ikea though.
