Miscarriage and D and C timing

How long after you found out your pregnancy wasn't viable did you have a D and C? I am six weeks and it isn't looking good as per my sono today. Looked great last week, but there was not a lot of growth. I go for another one in a few days. My doctor will then be away and he can do one when he comes back next week if this is not a good situation. Thanks for reading. So sorry there has to be a board like this. Chat Icon

Re: Miscarriage and D and C timing

I'm soo sorry.

I had a "not looking good situation" with my 2nd. It was only measuring 6 weeks as well, with no heartbeat. I gave it another week, still nothing.
then scheduled the D&C for the next day.

No big deal if you wait, you just have to be okay with walking around knowing there is a nonviable pregancy inside of you. That was honestly the hardest thing for me.

Also, you may begin to miscarry on your own....from what I understand.

Again, so sorry you are going thru this.

Thank you for sharing this. I am thinking it is a good idea in my situation to wait. What you mentioned is the hardest part walking around with a nonviable pregnancy. I even have a wedding on Saturday and I honestly don't know how I am going to go.

Re: Miscarriage and D and C timing

I am so sorry.Chat Icon I had a bad sono at 6.5 weeks, but ended up MCing naturally 5 days after. I had been spotting off and on, though.

I'm sorry you are going through this...the waiting is the worst by far. I am praying for a good outcome for you.

Re: Miscarriage and D and C timing

I had mine 1 week later. It was complete torture for me. I just wanted to get it over with. The whole procedure isn't bad, just for me the waiting was.

Glad I could help.
I was glad I waited (even though it was absolute torture), because then I knew that this really wasn't a viable pregnancy, not that I ended it to quickly.

Since you had a great sono last time, I'm hoping your next sono shows a heartbeat and growth... please keep us posted.

First of all I am so sorry you are going through this Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I had my missed miscarriage a few yrs ago. We could find no heartbeat at my 13 wk appointment/sono, and learned that the baby had passed at about 9 wks. I was scheduled for my D&C a few days afterwards, since it did not seem as though I was going to miscarry on my own (I had no bleeding, no loss of symptoms, etc) and to be honest, I just couldn't 'wait' for it to happen after learning the devastating news.

I wish you peace during this difficult timeChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon last year when i had the D&C i was at the doctors in the afternoon when he said there was no heartbeat, and stopped growing- they sent me immediatly for registering at winthrop and i had the dnc the next morning.....

when a dnc is needed, it can wait a certain amount of time but the baby shouldnt be in there for longer than 4 weeks or the fluids could start leaking out into the rest of the bodyChat Icon

Re: Miscarriage and D and C timing

Cindy, we may have spoken about this, but when they found no heartbeat during my pregnancy it was a Wednesday and they scheduled me for Friday, but I ended up miscarrying on my own on Thursday, went to ER and they kept me overnight so the doc could do D&C in the morning. But I was spotting all during the pregnancy. I was 8 wks along .

Re: Miscarriage and D and C timing

I'm very sorry for you - I know what you are going through. I was 11.5 weeks when I was at the ER for spotting & cramping. The sono showed that the baby stopped growing at some point since my last sono at 6 weeks. The D&C was done immediately.

It is a very difficult time, and I wish you all the best - my thoughts are with you.

Re: Miscarriage and D and C timing

I found out I was miscarrying on a Monday, had the D&C on Tuesday. I was 10.5 weeks. The baby actually stopped growing at 7.5 weeks.
