Miscarriage and TTC Again...how long?
I was wondering what any of your doctor's opinions were on having a miscarriage and ttc again.
My doctor said I should wait a year before TTC again. I thought that was a bit long considering I only miscarried at 5 weeks.
I know people who have a D & C done and they are told they can try again within two months. I did not need a D & C because I was so early on.
How long did your doctor tell you?

i'm so sorry to hear that. Two of my friends had miscarriages last year and both of their doctors told them to wait two months. One did and got pregnant two months later and the other decided to wait a lil longer, about 3 or 4.

Re: Miscarriage and TTC Again...how long?
A year for a natural miscarriage with no complications? That seems very off to me. I had one last March naturally and my MD said I could try again after one natural cycle. If I had to have the D/C, I would have been advised to wait 3 natural cycles.
Sorry for your loss!

Re: Miscarriage and TTC Again...how long?
A year seems a bit much to me, did he say why? I believe with certain types of m/c's you do need to wait, but I have never heard of that long of a period of time. Is it possible since your other child is so young that your body needs more time to heal?
I was 8 weeks along when I miscarried and since it was due to a chromonsome defect, I was told to wait 1-2 cycles before TTC again. I wasn't emotionally ready 1 month after, so we waited 2.

I am so sorry. I just went through it too. I m/c very early, and did not need a d&c, and was told to wait two cycles. I dont know if I can even wait that long, but we will see what happens. I think AF is finally coming to visit me again, which I am very happy about.

I was told to wait one cycle. They should be monitoring your hormones until you get down to zero before you get PG again. I would agree that one year seems excessive to wait.

Re: Miscarriage and TTC Again...how long?
Well I am glad u girls agree with me. It just does not make any sense. My doctor said I should wait a year because of the risk of having a baby with a low birth weight and pre term labor.
Honestly, I am going to wait, but definitely not a year.

Re: Miscarriage and TTC Again...how long?
WHAT?! A YEAR?
I miscarried naturally at 6 weeks. Two weeks later I had a follow-up appointment with my ob/gyn who told me during that appointment I should wait 2-3 cycles.
Little did we know, I had literally JUST conceived again probably the night or two before that appointment
I came back two weeks later, after I got my BFP, TERRIFIED because he had told me to wait.
He laughed, told me not to worry, that there is simply no medical evidence to warrant waiting before you TTC again when you've miscarried early on and naturally. It's a vestige from the ol' days, and they recommend it only so that you are totally emotionally ready, and so they can date the pregnancy with your next cycle.
I had absolutely no complications and I have a thriving, absolutely spirited-diva-ish little girl now.
P.S. my doc later informed me that it's common to conceive quickly after a miscarriage - you are highly fertile, as your body is already ready. If you DO want to wait, use extra precaution.

Re: Miscarriage and TTC Again...how long?
I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks & conceived again about 6 weeks after that.
When you m/c so early on, there's nothing really for your body to recover from because the embryo never attached to your uterus.
Good luck trying again.

Re: Miscarriage and TTC Again...how long?
Well that is some happy information.
I am not going to use protection and if it happens, it happens. If not, in a few months I will buy the OP'K.
Well practicing is the fun part. Practice makes perfect, right.

Re: Miscarriage and TTC Again...how long?
Could it be a year b/c you have an infant and you miscarried?
Your DC is about 5-6 months, right? Maybe your doctor is concerned that you lost this pregnancy b/c your body hadn't recovered from your previous pregnancy?
Get a second opinion if you aren't happy with the first one

I am not sure. The Dr. didn't mention anything about having my body recover or anything like that. It does make sense though!!

A Year??? Your Dr is crazy--why in the he!! would you wait a yr. You can try again after you have one normal period-which may be about 6 weeks.

Re: Miscarriage and TTC Again...how long?
My doctor told me that there is no physical reason why you need to wait to ttc following a miscarriage. He said that most doctor's tell you to wait to recover emotionally. I had a miscarriage in March, started my ivf cycle in April.

Re: Miscarriage and TTC Again...how long?
I was told to wait for at least two to three cycles to strengthen the uterus and the lining. Also, three months would be good for grievin.
Physically, I miscarried end of March 2005 and was pregnant June 2005(had my DS).
Second miscarriage, I miscarried middle of December 2006 and conceived again May 2007 (and I'm 20 weeks now).

Re: Miscarriage and TTC Again...how long?
That sounds crazy to me, but we all know there are crazy doctors out there. Is there another doctor in the practice you can see to obtain a 2nd opinion? My OB thought we had MC'd a week 6 and told me to wait 2-3 natural cycles before we tried again....and even then the only reason he told me to wait that long was so they could date the pregnancy more easily after two regular cycles. Turns out it was never a MC - the first Dr. was wrong. we're now 5 months pregnant with the "miscarried event." ...trust me - get a 2nd opinion.
