I have an Italian Greyhound and have had people mistake her for a whippet, a big grey puppy, a kangaroo, and a reindeer.    
reindeer love it!!
My brother lives in Brooklyn and he has a french bulldog people asked him if he was a rabbit, mini pitbull

People ask if my dog is a beagle, or a poodle of some mix in between. He's a cocker spaniel 
ETA:
even though my dog looks like a giant breathing stuffed animal, something about the neighborhood we live in little girls shriek and run away, even though he's the most laid back dog ever
