Moisturizing Baby's Face?

Does anyone know if there's a good moisturizer for baby's face? Or if it's a good idea to use it?

My newborn has pimples that the doctor thinks is caused by cradle cap. She recommended slathering aveeno moisturizer on his face but it doesnt seem to be helping much. His face appears even more pimpley and blotchy. :(

Re: Moisturizing Baby's Face?

I tried aguaphor for a few days based on some recommendaitons here but the pimples didn't fade at all.

Then I tried washing his face with some J&J baby shampoo follow by a slathering of Aveeno Soothing Relief lotion yesterday. His skin looks worse now!

I was told it's better not to use anything, just plain water to wipe his face, the baby acne will go away on it's own.

I use aquaphor when ds's skin is dry but i'm not sure if it will cause more problems for you. Maybe try cetaphil

I've always used the Gerber Moisturizing Stick (we call it cheek stick). It works well.

Re: Moisturizing Baby's Face?

My DS had a bad case of infant acne. I just left it alone until it eventually went away.

Re: Moisturizing Baby's Face?

aquafor was a lifesaver for DD with pimples on her face!!!!

ETA: it took like a week or so before it went away with the aquafor

LOL I have posted this so many times... Anyway....
When DD was liottle she got pimples all over her face. DR said it was baby acne. Then it got worse and wouldn't go away no matter what I did.. So I called him again and he said to apply 1% hydrocortisone cream on affected areas for 3-4 days and see if it helped. The "acne" went away in 2 days. So it turned out it was not acne after all, but some kind of reaction to something (please do not try this cream on your baby without asking your PEd first).
Also DD has very dry and sensitive skin. and it breaks out when it gets too dry or irritated. Aveeno didn't help . We took her to the dermatologist and he said to use Cerave moisturizer with blue label on her. It's similar to cetaphil , but supposed to be better . The kid I used to babysit who had extremely sensitive and dry skin used the same lotion. But once again, I am not sure if you can use it on little babies but I would ask the dr anyway.
Here is the info about the lotion.

Re: Moisturizing Baby's Face?

aquaphor... it does take several days to see a difference... also, use a cool-mist humidifier... that also helped out his skin a lot.

you can order online drugstore.com (or drugstores.com whatever the name is) or Walgreen's pharmacy also carries them.

Thanks, I don't think it's baby acne too 'cs it looks blotchy like some diaper rash.

Re: Moisturizing Baby's Face?

I swear by Mustela Stelatopia, it's the only thing that helped DS's eczema. You might not be at that point yet but if nothing else helps, might be worth a try.

When my DS was an infant and he had baby acne I just washed his face with water and put aquaphor on his face. Anything else seemed to irritate it.
