Momentum Program on WW

Can someone please explain it to me?
I can't get a feel for it from the WW website. I am a WW dropout wanting/needing to drop back in.

Re: Momentum Program on WW

Basically, what Momentum does is it switches up flex points and exercise points in an attempt to get you to exercise more. Instead of using your exercise points for the day you exercised, Momentum banks them and uses your flex points instead. Once you've run out of flex points Momentum then pulls points from your exercise points.

Does it really? I didn't know that and didn't see it anywhere on the site. I just rejoined and signed up for the Momentum program. I thought the only difference was the focus on using points on filling foods.

Re: Momentum Program on WW

Basically, they didn't really change much if you did the Points program, but they dropped the Core program. I go to meetings and the leader said that their studies showed that people who did Core still had problems with portion sizes. So now, foods that were Core foods are marked with a "more filling food" icon, but everyone is supposed to count points.

I don't know about the banking points aspect, I missed the meeting that was week 2 of the new program, maybe they explained it then. However, I have unfortunately been doing WW on and off so long that I remember when you were allowed to bank exercise points during the week. Chat Icon

Re: Momentum Program on WW

OK - I am really confused now. It DID change and is not the same thing. But the change is not drastic.

No more core.

You have to use your regular daily points on the 'filling foods' which are basically the core foods. Any other foods you have to use your WEEKLY 35 pts.

But, they do have some exceptions. For example...brown rice. Let's say 1/2 cup is 3 pts (don't know if that is the exact number), if you have 2 or even 2.5 cups it is only 5 pts. So you can eat as much until you get full for less points. But only certain foods, which should be listed on the website..I know they are in the Week 4 book.

That's what I see. I normally go over my given 20 points in a day. In the past WW would take exercise points to make up for what I went over and then I could leave my flex for the weekend. When Momentum began I saw all of my flex disappearing and my exercise remaining.

Ex: Today, I went over 5 points and have exercised 7 points. Instead of taking 5 points from my exercise, WW took it from my flex.

Are you sure they are not taking them because you used those 5 pts. on non filling foods?

This is from the WW website: The Plan Manager will automatically use your weekly POINTS Allowance first. After that, you can dip into you activity POINTS values. You may lose more weight if you don’t use them, but using them doesn’t eliminate your potential to lose weight. The only rule is that swapped activity POINTS values must be used within the week that you earned them. (http://www.weightwatchers.com/plan/int/planguide_07.aspx)

Right, but does it use your allowance for the non-filling foods? that is how I was taught about the new plan. any non-filling foods come from your weekly points NOT your daily points.

Yes, it does. I used 3 points of non-filling foods yesterday, went over 5 pts and WW still took the 5 pts from flex and not activity.

I'm not trying to be difficult...I just want to understand. I'm not asking about activity points...I never use them anyway.

If you eat a non-filling food (one that doesn't have a diamond next to it), then I was told that it is taken from your weekly points not your daily points. Is that the case on e-tools?

Remember on the old program, you can use your daily points on anything then your weekly points if you go over? Well now I was told that you can only use your daily pts on what they call 'filling foods' and anything else will be tallied from your weekly points.

That's what I was told and that is how I am following it. But I was wondering if that's how e-tools is calculating it.

I'm not sure. All I know is that I have 20 pts a day. I exercise ALOT and have always used my exercise points to make up for what I've gone over in a day. No matter what I eat, if I go over pts are taken from the flex and not the exercise. What ends up happening is that by Sat. and Sun. (the last two days of my week) I have no flex left and around 40 exercise points.

Maybe WW should go back to the old system. Chat Icon

But that's good! That you still have those exercise points nowChat Icon Chat Icon

I only have 20 pts too. I fill up on lots and lots and lots of veggies Chat Icon I never did use my activity points, so I don't really know how that all works.

I'm going to dig around on e-tools a bit and see what it says.

Thanks for your help. I guess I can easily start tracking Chat Icon

Steph....I don't believe this is the case. When I use e-tools to track, my daily points go to all food I ate. Once I use my daily points, it moves over to my flex points regardless of green diamonds. Although, at the meetings we're encouraged to use our daily points on filling foods (I don't think it's mandatory) I haven't tracked any activity points because I don't want to use them. But I've never heard anything about those points in terms of changes.

My understanding is that the new plan is basically flex but encouraging you to eat core foods first.

Don't be discouraged yet....talk to your leader. The new plan is the same as core, but now you have to track and give core foods point values. Same foods though

Trust me, exercise pts are different now. I use them, and have used them, religiously. Now when I exercise, those points are banked and only used if and when I run out of flex.

I don't think so. My whole breakfast was sadly non-filling foods. I checked on my e-tools and those points were deducted from my daily points, not my flex points.

I just do what I do every time they make changes. If it gets too annoying, I just stick with the older program that was working for me. Chat Icon

Re: Momentum Program on WW

my leader compared it to flex - she said that with flex, the idea was to eat responsibly and just count but eat what you want. now, she said, you should try to use your points on filling foods and sprinkle in non-filling. so its like core with flex mixed in.

Ditto. On the eTools, my daily points are used up for all foods, whether it is a filling food or not. I think the idea is to teach yourself to spend your points on filling foods as much as possible to curb hunger. The Momentum plan seems to be all about learning your hunger signals and knowing the difference between being satisfied versus being full.

I also learned yesterday that some foods now have a set point value, regardless of portion size, as long as you are reasonable. For example, chicken has a set point value of 5. If you have a small portion and find you are not satisfied, you can have a little more and it is still 5 points. You just have to learn to stop when you are satisfied, instead of eating more and more until you are full. There's only certain foods like this.

I have a question are the healthy oils counted as part of your daily points as well.
