Mommas after 35--do you have more visits at end than others? Update
I know everyone starts going to their OB weekly from 36 weeks on but in addition, I'm also supposed to go to my imaging place for BBP (biophysical profile) weekly as well. I've had a really easy, not high risk pregnancy---I just happen to be 35! Is this the norm? It just seems like so much.
Called my doctor when they opened (had to discuss my FMLA leave documents anyways) and they confirmed that in their practice, EVERY patient that is "elderly primigravida" (35+ for first pregnancy) gets the extra testing, has nothing to do with high risk or not! So it is confirmed it is truly based on age!

I do but it's because I have GD.
My other two friends who were 37 and 41 when they were pregnant had 0 complications and just went for regular appointments as necessary.

Hmm. Yea, that's why I'm surprised. My doctor said they would be quick appointments so I guess I won't fight them, just think they are unnecessary and it's just schleping all over the city that annoys me. I also checked with a friend that also goes to my doctor and she had to do the same--she was also over 35.

I'm 35, so at my practice, at each 36 week+ weekly appointment, I get an ultrasound and non-stress test. It's all at the same office, though, so it's not very burdensome. I don't have any major complications with my pregnancy, either.

I did IVF which made me high risk - although I had an uneventful pregnancy. I was 32 and went for alternating biweekly non stress tests and sonograms after 36 weeks.

No I didn't have any extra appointments... I had 2 or 3 NSTs but that's normal at the end

Age alone does not dictate appts.

I just gave birth in June at 37 and at the end, I only had weekly visits after week 36. The same was true when I had my first DS at 33. I don't even know what that BBP is.

Re: Mommas after 35--do you have more visits at end than others?
Not because I was over 35 only because I had elevated BP that I was on meds for and my belly and baby were measuring small. So they wanted me in more often to keep an eye on that and for NST's, growth sonos etc. Age didn't play into it.

Re: Mommas after 35--do you have more visits at end than others?
With my first, I just had the standard obgyn appts at the end, nothing extra, but I was monitored by a hematologist because of low platelet count.
With my second, I had GD, and that was a lot of additional appts, testing, and monitoring at the end.
I'm sure it's annoying but you're at the end and hopefully, you'll hear and maybe see LO a bit more often!

I guess at my doctor it does! I have low/normal BP, no GD, no issues at all and baby is measuring in the 48th percentile. She just says everyone over 35 gets additional screening.
Maybe she doesn't do the NST at her office?

I had to google it!
(BPP) is a prenatal ultrasound evaluation of fetal well-being involving a scoring system, with the score being termed Manning's score. It is often done when a non-stress test (NST) is non reactive, or for other obstetrical indications.
Every single test I've had this entire pregnancy has been normal so hoping these will be too!

I agree with this. I was 35 when I delivered and I did not have any more appts. I also did not have a BBP...do not even know what that is.

No, the same number of visits as everyone else. Last month was a once weekly visit with the regular ob office.

I really think it depends on your Dr. I'm 34, and will be 35 when I deliver. I haven't been told about any additional testing yet but I'm only 28 weeks. But I know other women whose doctors classified them as high risk only based on their age. Which I think is kind of ridiculous but I guess it happens.

I updated in my first post---it's just how my practice works. Everyone over 35 gets the extra testing. Oh well!

Same here. Nothing extra at the end.

Omg, I'm dying over here at the term "elderly primagravida". I'm in the medical field and never heard that one before. I'm around the same age as you and I find it highly insulting!

My practice does bpps also rather than the nst although I'm not sure how different they are. I had them every few days when I was overdue and a few others. It's a short sonogram to measure fluid levels and then I was hooked up to the hr monitor for 15-20 minutes to check the baby's heart rate and reactivity.

Re: Mommas after 35--do you have more visits at end than others? Update
I'm 19 weeks and 39 with #3 and so far, there haven't been any changes in appointments due to my age.
I did have a loss at 18 weeks last year so I have been getting monthly ultrasounds because of that but nothing due to my age.

Probably not. Mine are done at the hospital. My doctor does do sonos but quick and her machine is no where near as good as the one at the hospital.
For DD#1 I had GD also, I was 28 and my sonos at the end were also done at the hospital.

No , just the regular weekly visits. I guess every office is different, but I like the idea of the NST and extra sono for peace of mind!
