Mommies of circumcised boys - WWYD

DS was circumcised at birth. The rim of his peeshie head reattached itself to the body of the peeshie, just the bottom rim. I mentioned this to my pediatrician and she said that this is very common and not to worry about it until he is older. Uhm, I don't want my son to be cut again when he is 5! I read that there are steroid creams that aid in the detaching of the skin.

Anyway, I want to go and see a urologist for a 2nd opinion. Am I crazy for wanting to take care of this now? Its just the rim, I don't understand why she can't just give me the cream and she is not making a big deal out of this. I want my son to have a nice peppy when he gets older.

Did this happen to any of your boys?

This hasn't happen to my son but I don't think you're crazy for wanting to take care of it now, why wait until later. I would def. see the urologist!

I would be doing the same if i were you. The sooner it's taken care of, the better off you'll all be. Chat Icon

I would definitely get a second opinion. It couldn't hurt and at the least it would give you piece of mind. Chat Icon

We're in a very similar boat. We saw Dr. Wasnick (urologist) when DS was about 1.5 months old and he said it was fine. My DH is so upset about the way it is looking lately, we are going back to Dr. Wasnick at the end of the month. Hopefully we'll get some answers. I would say call and make an appointment if you are concerned. Chat Icon

Thanks girls. Whats weird is that the rim reattached itself appx. 6 months ago, when the circumcision was completely healed.

I'm going to see a urologist.

We were in the same situation. We had it fixed at 8 months. It's actually a very quick thing. They put Emla cream on to numb the area & pull it apart.

I have a 5 & 7 year old now. I would NOT want to wait until he's 5 & will remember it.

Re: Mommies of circumcised boys - WWYD

I would get a second opinion now. It happened to both of my boys. My first son we had the urologist do it at 1 year b/c it was pretty stuck. DS #2 I knew what I was looking for and saw it starting very early. His pediatrician pulled it apart (it wasn't too bad) when he was about 2 months. It still looks like it's always sticking (too much skin) so I pull it back all the time so it won't adhere again.

This is happening to Rylan also. His ped said as he gets older it will correct itself. I'm not so sure though...he has a LOT of extra skin.

I would have it looked at now, when he's not going to remember anything.

That's what my ped said (he said it should correct itself) but it didn't so we went to the urologist. Honestly at a year it wasn't that bad. He put the cream on it and DS barely moved.....over that age I think it could get worse.

Did your ped recommend you seeing a urologist or did you go on your own?

I would want to get it done sooner rather than later. Its way less traumatizing for them.

Twinboys actually refered a urologist for us to get a consultation. I am most likely going to have to have him cut again. I guess it's better at 1 than later on. I figure that it's best to get - at least- a 2nd opinion. My pediatrician is against it because it's "cosmetic" and he doesn't want to encourage annethisia procedures.

I think thats exactly the reason why my ped is saying not to worry about it. But to me that is a lot to worry about.

I made an appointment to Dr. Palmer, who not only was recommended by a lot of you but also has fantastic credentials! Thank you!

I always go for second opinions, so I would certainly do it when there is a penis involved!!!!!!

Re: Mommies of circumcised boys - WWYD

this happened to my son too, it was just a little around the top. the dr peeled it back 2x- yes it was painful for both of us when she did it, but that was it. our ped said its very common and it usually takes care of itself after the peel.
