Re: Mommies of newborns..Formula ?

At 3 weeks my DD was drinking 3-4 oz every 3 hours. Now at 6 weeks she is drinking 5 oz. You can't overfeed your baby. She will stop when she is full! Does she spit up at all?

My Chat Icon is 3 weeks and 3 days.... she is only at 3 oz with 1.5 tsps of rice cereal mixed in due to reflux every 3-4 hours.

Dont be fooled just because you give them more doenst mean they will go longer between bottles. DS has never gone more than 3 hours unless he fell asleep.

He is 11 weeks old, takes 6-7 oz per feeding and is screaming at 2h45m.

At that age I think he was doing 4+ oz per feeding EVERY three hours. Except at night, at night he always went 5-6 hours.

Not always the case, DS has NEVER stopped until teh bottle was empty. Some babies will just keep eating, until they throw up!

She will let you know if she has had too much with ALOT of spit up, like as soon as it goes in, it comes out.

My little guy is an erratic eater. Sometimes he has 7 oz. bottles, sometimes 4 oz. And sometimes he likes his snack bottles of 2 oz. I just can't make him eat more than he wants. He was like this when he was born too.

I think he was only taking about 2 or 2.5 ounces every 3 hours in the beginning. I can't remember when he finally moved to 3, but it was a big deal. He had about 7-8 bottles a day early on, generally he has less now.

Re: Mommies of newborns..Formula ?

It probably depends on how big she is. My DS was eating sort of inconsistently at that age as well. He would sometimes eat every 3 hours, sometimes every 2 hours and sometimes he would only last 1 1/2 hours, but he probably was averaging 3 to 3.5 ounces every 3 hours. He was over 9 lbs when he was born though, so I would guess he ate more than the average baby.

I did ask the doctor at the one month checkup if they could eat too much and she said, "well, they can tend to be a bit like goldfish....they'll sometimes eat whatever you keep giving them." I wouldn't worry before you doctor appt. If she is keeping it down keep the pattern you have and check with the doctor when you go.
