Mommies that had #2 when 1st DC was under 2, I have a question
Did you do anything to prepare the older sibling for the arrival of the new baby?
Gianna will be 14 months old when #2 is born, i am not sure if there's anything i should be doing to prepare her for it.
TIA!

same boat Michele....I'm not really quite sure they understand what's coming. I know they notice the physical changes, but I don't think there is anyway to prepare them when they are so young.
My best friend says her daughter doesn't remember life without her little brother (they are 18 months apart).

I agree with this. My sister had my niece and nephew 15 months apart and my niece did not know what happened. She just realized that one day there was a baby in the house.

Exactly SHana! I am not sure if she will even "get" it, until #2 comes.
I am soo worried she is going to be soo jealous, she's such a mommy's girl.

Re: Mommies that had #2 when 1st DC was under 2, I have a question
Sarah was 16 months old when Andy was born. Honestly, there's not much you can do with a small age gap like that. They just can't grasp the concept. I used to talk about the baby, have her kiss my belly, say things like "Hi Baby" and she was shocked when we walked in the house with him.
We got Sarah this bookMy New Baby
We used to look at it at least once a day (it's a picture book) and talk about how she was going to help when the baby came, how she was going to be a big sister, etc. It didn't really sink in for her until the baby came home. She has a stunned look on her face in all the pics from that day, poor little thing.

Re: Mommies that had #2 when 1st DC was under 2, I have a question
I don't think there's much we can do to prepare. Nate will be 21 months when #2 comes and I don't think he understands anything. He'll pat my belly (or pull up his shirt) when I say "Where's the baby?" He'll also kiss me belly when I say "Kiss the baby."
When the baby comes, we'll just have to make sure that we give him one-on-one time with each of us. We re-enrolled him in Little Gym Sat classes so that he has that time that's just him and Mommy or Daddy.

Re: Mommies that had #2 when 1st DC was under 2, I have a question
my friend did say that when she brought the baby home, her DH doted on her daughter ALOT because she felt left out and needed that extra attention.
We plan on doing the same and I'm sure there will plenty of visitors/family to do so as well.
Also, I've spoken to several people who had "stair step" children and one told me that when her son came along, she had a special basket of toys for her DD to play with ONLY when she was nursing him so it was something special for her to do while mommy was busy.

Re: Mommies that had #2 when 1st DC was under 2, I have a question
when i had ds, my dd was only 20 months old. personally i think it was easy to transition another baby in the house when #1 is so young. they dont really understand what is happening. and i feel it went very smoothly. when i brought ds home from the hosptial we just keep telling dd how lucky she was cause now she has a new lil brother and friend for life. it went really well.
