Mommies who have dogs - ticks/fleas prevention meds
I can't remember which one is "safer" around kids.
ETA: I asked our vet today ($$$$ yearly visits!!!) and he said both Advantix and Frontline were "not safe" for kids.

really? We use frontline and our vet knows we have a kid and hasn't said anything about it. Hmmm...

We use Frontline and though our vet never said anything, I worry! So my dog will stay with my parents for the 3 days after putting it on, and until we can give her a bath.

Re: Mommies who have dogs - ticks/fleas prevention meds
My BILs vet just gave them advantix and said to put it on at night after the kids are asleep so they dont touch her but other than that it was fine!
I am interested to hear the response as I need to do something with my dog and I just keep forgetting to pick up the advantix!

I put frontline on my dogs. I would think as long as it dries, it's ok then. I will ask my vet and ped as well. I just put it on yesterday but DD doesn't touch them really yet.

Re: Mommies who have dogs - ticks/fleas prevention meds
Greenfreak gives Brinkley Garlic in some form to prevent fleas/ticks. She does this because evidently Frontline can be damaging and potentially lethal to animals. I'm sure if you do a search on pets she likely has a post on it - otherwise you can FM her.
I can tell you that I have met her pup and he's definitely not flea ridden - even if he has garlic breath!

Re: Mommies who have dogs - ticks/fleas prevention meds
DH puts Frontline on Scout after DD goes to bed. So that gives 12 hours until she is around him after he has had it applied. I try to keep her from petting him the following day but doesn't always work.
