Moms of 1 year olds please come in...
1 year old! I still can't believe I have a 1 year old now!
Anyways now that he just about start eating a lot more of table food. I was just wondering what you all feed your menu. A sample menu would be fine. I want to do away with giving cereal in the evening so he can have more dinner food. I'm afraid of him gagging so what are some foods that are safe. Of course I will cut it up for him. I still will give him the baby food jars but I really want to start mixing it up.

DD eats everything for dinner... Chicken, meatballs, pasta, Dr. Praegers veggie burgers, spinach or potato pancakes, meatloaf, leftovers from my dinner, steamed veggies...etc.

I need some ideas on how much you prepare for them. I have no idea. He's tasted table food here and there but has not any actual meals...

she eats until she is full. Just give him whatever and she how much he eats, it's not a science.

Ever since she started eating table food we just give Sarah smaller portions of what we are eating, and then if she's still hungry we'll give her more of it.

Re: Moms of 1 year olds please come in...
Meatless meatballs, chicken nuggets, cold cuts cut up (turkey and ham), frozen peas, waffles, eggs, pancakes, any kind of fruit, mac n cheese. DD is picky so this is all we've got so far. I'm still trying to intro new things each week. Last night I gave her mahi mahi and she hated it

Re: Moms of 1 year olds please come in...
DS all of a sudden is not really interested in tasting any table foods. That could be because he is full from his baby food. That's why I want to slowly start taking some baby foods away, so that he'll have more table food. I'm afraid of giving him for fear that he will gag on it. I mean I know you cut it up to pieces but knowing me i'd make them too tiny cuz i'm too paranoid...

Grace is still on baby jar food (EB stage 3), due a bad gag reflex. However, she did have some table food last night. She ate baked ziti that I mashed up for her and some broccoli. Little by little she will get there!
She is not walking independently yet, cruising the furniture still. However she has mastered getting on and off her FP bounce and spin zebra. When she really wants to do something, she does it.

Re: Moms of 1 year olds please come in...
Marron is 13 months and pretty much refuses all babyfood now. I too have a tough time figuring out what and how much to give her. This is what we've done so far:
Breakfast *Cheerios (either dry or with a bit of milk) *Cinnamon raisin toast *Any fruit: strawberries, apples, oranges, pineapple, pears, peaches. Just not bananas -- don't know why, she just refuses them, but loved them as babyfood. *Yogurt *Cheese
Things she hated: French toast, pancakes, waffles, eggs.
Lunch *Gerber Graduates ravioli *Ham or turkey (I ask the deli to cut me a thick slice, about the thickness of a ham steak and then I cube it for her) *Cheese *Turkey hot dog or regular hot dog *Any fruits mentioned above *Mac 'n cheese *Leftover dinner
Dinner *Chicken (baked, fried, rotisserie, roasted) *Meatballs *Meatloaf *Pizza *Pasta (I buy the Barilla Plus, made with lentils so it's not just carbs) *Sausages *Ravioli *Tortellini *Any kind of bread *Crabcakes *Fried flounder *French fries -------------------------------------------------------- She just about refuses all vegetables right now, even though she ate all of them as babyfood. I keep trying, but all I've been able to get her to eat is a bit of corn, maybe some green beans, disguised with cheese from mac 'n cheese or something, and a few times she has eaten tomatoes, cucumbers, and pickles.
HTH
ETA: I find if I cut the food too small she will just swallow it whole rather than chewing it. I often have to give her pieces bigger than I am comfortable with just so she will chew. I just watch her closely. She has given us 2 scares so far.

See that's the thing Matthew is not walking. He's only cruising so that's why i'm still not a 100% sure. But I can at least start with pasta. He eats that sometimes...

Giovanna, I would not worry about it. I have never seen a 10yr old eating baby food or not walking. I used to get so hung up on what Grace was "not doing", now I focus on what she "is doing". She is an awesome sleeper, eater, and her fine motor skills are 4-5 months ahead of where she should be. Plus, she is so sweet. Laughs, plays independently, "swims" with her swim tube in the lake with her daddy and loves to play tickle pickle (where we tickle her belly).
One of the greatest gifts I received from having my surgery is to just enjoy Grace and not focus on the milestones she is not hitting so much. If the doctor is not worried, why should I be? She is a great kid, so happy and sweet so I must be doing something right, ya know? I hope this make sense.

Re: Moms of 1 year olds please come in...
i usually give pastina, orzo etc. mixed with with a veggie - either chucks of eggplant, zucchini, broccoli, asparagus, carrots and potatoes
we usually steam or grill the veggies and she loves them. Then - of course we add fruit
For dinner - she will have meatloaf, chicken cutlet, pieces of steak with french fries, soup, bascially anything we eat + a veggie and some more fruit.
When i give pastina i usually boil 1.5 - 2 tbsp and then add the veggie to it at the end and mix in the bowl to measure myself.
My daughter could eat all the time so i try to portion her meals but i don't go crazy about it - when she is not hungry anymore she starts to play with her food and nods no to me so i know she is no longer hungry.

Re: Moms of 1 year olds please come in...
Lauren is now 13 months, but she's rejected baby food since about 9-10 months. I have plenty of jars sitting in my pantry. She eats anything and everything we eat, just cut up and smaller.
Favorites are: waffles (1 Eggo) pancakes (4 small ones) french toast sticks (she'll have two) bananas watermelon cheese grilled cheese pasta with sauce (very messy! ) chicken nuggets hamburger rotisserie chicken any and all veggies etc.

It does make sense...
One thing he loves eating are bananas. I give him half a banana sometimes and he eats it up and goes "mmmmm" whenever I give him a piece.
One thing I do want to eliminate is cereal for dinner. Maybe not do it every night and alternate. So on the days where he would not get cereal in the evening would 4 tbsp of cereal in the morning only be enough? For I do want to stick with cereal in the mornings.
But once I start giving other stuff like eggs, toast, etc. Do I still have to give him cereal as well or alternate that?

Re: Moms of 1 year olds please come in...
Ella is anti-baby food. She won't eat off a spoon unless its soup or yogurt. She has to feed herself (which makes for some messy meals).
She was on an eating strike for a few days but now she's back to eating everything:
She loves most vegetables & fruits, so those are a large portion of her meals. She'll fill her face with peas, carrots, tomatoes, berries, bananas, avocado, etc.
Breakfast: waffle, yogurt and/or fruit (she's not a huge fan of eggs)
lunch/dinner: cheese sandwich tofu w/veggies or tomatoes pizza pastina w/chicken soup little bits of whatever we're eating
she's not a huge meat eater yet, but she's getting there.
eta: I'm not sure it matters if he's walking or not. What does walking have to do with eating?

Re: Moms of 1 year olds please come in...
I give Hayden waffles, pancakes, fruit, or yogurt with fruit for breakfast.
For lunch he gets a stage 3 fruit and some cereal when I'm at work. If at home, I give him what I eat. He likes hummus and pita bread and cheese.
For dinner he loves chicken, peas and sweet potatoes. He likes pasta, ravioili, meatballs too.
It took a few weeks for him to really get used to it, but now he eats anything.
BTW, he is not walking yet, just cruising everywhere.

I'm with you on that one girl! I want to give him stuff but i'm always reluctant. The not knowing what they'll gag on drives me nuts! One thing I will hold off on is meat. That scares me the most. I know you can cut it up but still. It can be tricky. So I'll hold off on that. I'll stick to the dinner jars for that. I gave him some pasta with sauce last night and he had a nice sized portion. It was spaghetti (of course I chopped it up into a million pieces)
