Moms of 2-2.5 year olds what are you teaching your DC?
DS just turned 2 and isn't starting preschool until 3. With some of the time we have together I would like to try to teach him things. The thing is - I am at a loss as to what they should be learning at this age. I feel like I'm either doing things too easy for him or too hard. Anyone know of any good books that talk about what kids should be learning at what ages that is good for this age? Moms of toddlers this age what are your kids doing and what are they learning whether at home, daycare or in preschool? We've already got the letters, numbers to 20, colors, shapes etc...

My DD is just a baby, but I'm a K teacher and I think reading to your DC each day is very important. You seem to be doing a lot already! Read books and discuss them. Ask your DD questions about the book while you're reading it. You should make comments about the book while you're reading to him to show how someone reacts to a book.

DS is 25 months and we are working on the following: capital and lower case letters in english and spanish (can sing the alphabet and can ID most letters but not all of them) colors in english and spanish (I think DS may be color blind so it is a little difficult for us) shapes by sight and drawing them numbers in english and spanish (he can count in english to 20 and in spanish to 8) simple addition in english catching a ball first, last name, address, phone number

Yes, we do this. I also let him finish the stories. The thing is he always wants to hear the same stories over and over again which he has memorized so I say half the page and then he says the rest - is this even beneficial or should I try to encourage him to constantly read new books instead of the same old ones over and over?
Thanks so much for your input it is really helpful!

This is very helpful! Thank you. Are they capable at this age of drawing shapes? He draws circles and lines and tries to draw triangles but he rarely gets them right - is this something he should be doing? Thank you!!

DS can draw a circle and a line. He is trying triangles and tracing. We have this thing that you can put a crayon in and do the shapes. We just started that last week. We do the same thing with books too. He has memorized a few of them too. It sounds like we are on the same page. Oh we also do animals and their sounds as well as construction vehicles and their names and functions.
