Moms of 2 Under 2- Furniture Question
Did any of you get away with not buying a second crib?
DS and the new baby will be 18 months apart. We're planning on having the new baby sleep in our room in a PNP for the first couple months.
I'm trying to figure out how realistic it would be to transition the new baby to DS's crib and move DS into a separate toddler bed. Will he be old enough? We already have a grown-up bed for him when he's ready.
Eventually, I want to convert DS's crib into a full bed for our guest room and buy different furniture for the babies.

Re: Moms of 2 Under 2- Furniture Question
I think your plan sounds good.
Mine are 21 months apart. For the first 4 months after #2 was born he used the co-sleeper while DS#1 slept in the crib. Then we brought a toddler bed for DS#1 and moved DS#2 to the crib. Now they are 3.5 yrs and 2 yrs and still sleeping the toddler bed and crib, respectively.

Re: Moms of 2 Under 2- Furniture Question
Not there yet, but I do have the same plans as you. DD will be 23 months when this one arrives. I figure 3 months in the bassinet next to me at night buys me some more time. I had wanted to convert the crib into the daybed first for Victoria but I may just end up getting her something else........
I figure I'll see how she does when the baby arrives and how badly it throws off her schedule before making that decision

Re: Moms of 2 Under 2- Furniture Question
We didn't buy a second crib.
Joseph was 22 months old when we had Maddie. Maddie was in the bassinet for 3 months.
He would sleep in our bed at night a lot.
We transitioned him to a full size bed & over the course of a few weeks. Then left the crib empty for a few weeks, then put her in it at night.

23 months apart, 1 crib.
We moved Ella into a bed a few weeks before Erik was born. He was in our room for a few months so the crib was still available to her if she wanted to go back (she never did).

Re: Moms of 2 Under 2- Furniture Question
my girls are 14 months apart. We transitioned our oldest DD to a twin bed at 17 months old. She did great!
We had all plans to leave our youngest DD in the crib as long as possible, since we weren't in a rush to use the crib for another baby. But Brooke hated her crib. At 15 months old she transitioned to a twin bed and she also did great with the transition!
You can defiantly get away with using 1 crib!

Re: Moms of 2 Under 2- Furniture Question
I know they tell you not to do this, but we bought a second crib off craiigslist. A bellini that I wanted for the 1st one but didnt want to pay 1k for a crib.
So we got it on craigslist for $250 (in hindsight I probably could have negotiated!) The person still had the original reciept, the instructions and everything it came with so I felt good about it. She had it set up when I came, it looked great and her DH put it down and packed it in my truck. It was a nice house too and I could see they took care of their stuff.
I'm babbling today...
SO ANYWAY, the important stuff. I would advise you to have them both in a crib. When I moved the older one into a toddler bed, she started running the baby's room to say HI or hang around while I'm trying to put her to sleep etc. It would be much easier if I could just put her in her crib. Same thing for the mornings, she runs into Ellie's room and is like "good morning!" and wakes her up. Its sweet, but...bittersweet I guess.

Re: Moms of 2 Under 2- Furniture Question
If I have a girl she will get her own set and Jack will stay in his crib.
If I have a boy I thought I would give the baby Jack's crib and move him to a toddler bed - but in all honesty, I don't know that he will be ready for it (he'll be 27 months when this baby is born)
I may just buy another crib. I'm not sure what I'm thinking just yet but will figure it out once we know what we're having

Re: Moms of 2 Under 2- Furniture Question
20 months apart and I bought a 2nd crib. I did not want #1 to feel like the new baby was taking his bed away. Besides, he ended up sleeping in his crib till he was 3 anyway. Once #1 was out of his crib, I sold it, kept DS#2 crib, and used that one for #3.
