Re: Mom's of 3-4 month olds ...
I'm glad you took out this posting, I was wondering the same thing of other mothers. DS is 3 months old. He's been sleeping through the night since 5 weeks, so he sleeps about 7-8 hours, gets up, eats, gets a diaper change and then falls back to sleep for 2-3 hours. Then, throughout the day he plays by himself with a couple of toys he can lie on his back for about half an hour each time. I sit and play with him at least twice a day for as long as I can hold his attention, usually at least half an hour. I'm BFing, so eats about every 3-4 hours and takes a couple of naps for about 45 minutes to an hour. Just wish it was warmer out so I can take him for walks.

Re: Mom's of 3-4 month olds ...
At this poing I feed my DS about every 3 hours. After he eats he plays for an hour or so under his baby Einstein or under one of his play gyms. I often sit with him and engage him with puppets or other toys. Then after about an hour and a half or when he shows signs of being tired I put him in his swing for a nap. Once he falls to sleep I turn it of so it is not swinging the whole time. Usually he takes one long nap a day of 2 or 3 hours and then two small naps that are 45 - 60 mins. I try not to let him stay awake for more than 2 hours at a time. Then at around 6pm I start getting him ready for bed with a bath, bottle, and book. He is usually sleeping by 7:30pm. At this point the sleeps for 7-9 hours and wakes up for a bottle and then goes back to sleep for another 3-4 hours.
I just bought the book Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child it it gives great advice about napping and sleeping.

Re: Mom's of 3-4 month olds ...
As I sit here completely sleep deprived this thread is making me SOOOOOO depressed! I am sooo jealous. DS is SUCH a bad sleeper and reading this I am starting to wonder if this is my fault!
DS is 4 mos, i just bought babywise - the bk and so i am trying to get him on a schedule. He is eating six times a day - every three hours. his last feeding is between 12:30 and 1:30 - YES THAT IS AM!!! By the time I nurse him and hold him upright for a half hour at least (he has bad reflux) it is around 2-2:30. I usually pray that he falls asleep while nursing and I put him down and hope for the best. 1-2 nights a week he will stay asleep for 7 hrs. But this rarely happens. Otherwise he keeps crying and doesn't go to sleep until 3-4am. Sometimes he is waking up after 2 hrs :( :(
As for napping - he rarely naps - and when he does its usually for less than an hour unless he is exhausted.
I just talked to the dr. about his reflux b/c i am hoping that maybe once we get him on the medicine he will be a better sleeper I am embarrassed even posting this b/c i feel like i am doing something wrong

You are not doing anything wrong. Please do not feel bad. Your baby has reflux and I am sure this is a big reason he is so fussy. I really think it all works out. It is really difficult the first few months. I think it is difficult to have any kind of real schedule. We have to give our DC what they need. I really believe that at this time we should not let them CIO. In time it will get easier. I envy you for still BFing. I did for a little in the beginning and then I gave up. I am still sooo sad about this.

DS is 4 months old and is on his own schedule Which usually means that he eats every 3 hrs. He is also on stage 1 fruits and cereal. He eats it at 10am and 7pm. Takes a bath, massage, book, and then relax until he gets sleepy. I am sooooooo sleep deprive that I feel like I am losing my mind.My home is a mess and I am a mess. He goes to sleep at about 9pm and wakes at 12, 3,6, and then 9. I don't know what I am doing wrong. Should I be feeding him more formula. He takes 5 oz now. When he wakes its for a bottle which he usually does not drink it all.

Hopefully soon he will stop waking up at 12 and 3. If he will not drink more it is hard to make him. My son was doing the same thing until a few weeks ago. He would wake up between 11am-1am and then again between 3-5am. Finally he stopped waking up from 11am-1am. Does your DC go to bed right after each feeding at night? You should get the book Healthy Sleep habits Happy child. I really liked it and some of the ideas worked for me. Hang in there. It will get better. I am sorry you are feeling sooo tired. It's not easy.

Re: Mom's of 3-4 month olds ...
My son is 4 months old. He eats about every 2.5 - 3 hours throughout the day. He typically takes a morning nap of about 40 minutes. That is his only consistent nap. The rest of the day, it is hit or miss. Some days, he will take one long nap in the afternoon (2-3 hours). Other days, he cat naps on and off.
His bedtime is 8 pm. He always wakes between 11:30 and midnight to eat. He wakes again between 2:30 and 3. Some nights, he also wakes at 4 and 5 am. Good times. At this point, I feel like I may never sleep for more than a 4 hour stretch again.

At night we get ready for bed with some songs, then a bath, bottle BOOM he is out.... He eats 5.5oz bottle, I tried to give him cereal the other day I don't think he is ready ( he doesn't know how to swallow it)

Re: Mom's of 3-4 month olds ...
DD will be 4 months on 1/11. She's not a big day napper...takes about 45 minutes here and there. She eats 4 bottles a day...anywhere between 6-8 ounces. She's a little chuncka moncka! As for night time, she usually eats her last bottle sometime around 8-9 pm and then sleeps until 8ish. Hopefully when the solids start we can push her to eat a little earlier and then wake a little earlier so I can get her ready for the babysitter. Only 1 more month until I have to hand her off to someone else to watch.

Re: Mom's of 3-4 month olds ...
thanks ladies for all the responses. I was hoping by now there would be more of a schedule going. Starting Monday I think I am going to make a real effort to try to have some sort of consistency.
The only thing that is consistent is that he wakes up anywhere between 9-10 am. We eat, play a bit, then he goes down for a nap within 1-1/2 hours of waking. He sleeps for a good 1-1/2 to 2 hours. gets up and eats, plays, naps, repeat for the rest of the night. I do not have a night time schedule ... lazst night he went down at 12:30 am, slept until 4:30, then until 6 am, then 6:30, then 9:45 am. I hate all the wake ups.
Tonight he fell asleep around 9 pm and I just fed him while sleeping 4 oz. Hopefully that helps him stay sleeping.
As for intake ... he is all over the map ... sometimes he takes 6 oz, sometimes 4 oz ... I never know.

Re: Mom's of 3-4 month olds ...
question: For those babies that sleep through the night, do they stay down the entire time? DS doesn't eat in the middle of the night usually, but he will stir and I have to "shush him" and put the paci back in ... sometimes I have to do that 4 times in an hour at 2 am, 3 am, 5 am .. it's so frustrating, I am exhausted!

Re: Mom's of 3-4 month olds ...
Michael is out by 9 p.m. and wakes up and falls back asleep appx 2 times before 11 p.m. He sleeps through the night and is usually up by 6:30-7 a.m. I nurse him and change him and he is out again for another 1-2 hours. We then get up, I change and dress him and around 10 am he gets his bottle. We play a little and in about an hour he is getting tired and so I put him in his swing and he naps for about an hour. This is my time to quickly pump, eat and shower. He then wakes up and I usually take him out for a walk or we just sit and listen to some music and play a little. He gets another bottle and then takes a long nap (usually 3 hours). He then gets up and get another bottle and plays with my husband until bath time at around 7:30pm ( I have to move it up to 7 now). After bath, we usually play and "talk" again and then I nurse him and put him in his crib with the mobile on and he falls out. Some nights are better than others. Sometimes he is cranky so we have to rock him a bit or my husband would carry him around. Sometimes he'll fall asleep in our bed. I don't want to be too structures about it especially since he is a very good sleeper and likes his crib.
Our play time consists of reading books, playing with the Learning Puppy or the Baby Einstein puppets or his other toys. I just basically pretend that the toys are talking to him and DS loves it! He "talks" back and tries to grab them...I don't put on the TV for him bc he is not really interested in it yet.

I think you're right on point except for the evening part...how about establishing a routine...for example, bath time, story time, bottle and good night...it may take some time but he'll get used to it!

Re: Mom's of 3-4 month olds ...
He does stay down the entire time. I do whatever I can to stimulate him to keep him up, so by the time I get ready to put him down, he goes right out. This is uaually the only time during the day that I pump and give him a bottle. I give him about 6-7 oz. A nice big feeding, half way through I change his diaper, and put pj's on. Then he takes the rest of the bottle and goes out.
itsbabytime - Please try not to get down from reading other posts. It is very hard. I've had my rough days, especially at the beginning. It sounds like the reflux is making things more difficult. Hang in there. Talk to the doctor. You are doing everything you can as a mother to help make your child comfortable and that's the best thing you can do. Believe me, I'm sure there will be things ahead where I feel the way you do right now. This is one thing that every person will have a different experience with.
