Moms of "bigger" babies...
Did your ped tell you that DC would be delayed in their physical milestones? Or did you find this to be true at all?
My BFF's son is about 22lbs and 5.5 months old and that is what her ped to her. I told her not to worry b/c Christopher is very average for size and hit his physical milestones late, so I didn't think that had anything to do with it.

Absolutely not! People said the same thing to me, my first was 20+ lbs at 6 months and was crawling at 6 months and walking at almost a year. He is still big...35+ lbs at 2 and a half and he is the most agile and strongest out of all of his friends

Ava was born big, and still is. She was a little slower to walk and crawl than some of my friends more "petite" babies. But that was it.

My doctor never said anything like that to us for either boys. Jayden is 29 lbs at 13 months. He's been walking since he was 11 months.

Re: Moms of "bigger" babies...
I have a big boy. I think weight and being big does hinder a little. I mean it is harder to lift that big body LOL.
But i don't think that alone delays crawling or walking. And i am not sure what other "physical development" would be delayed.
I do think crawling has more to do with tummy time, how much a child likes it and does it. If a child, IMO tolerates it and is on his stomach a lot then i think that facilitates the crawling more than anything, including weight. My DS HATES tummy time. He is big and i am not sure if he will crawl. He rolls a lot but doesn't really crawl. Just goes around in circles LOL. But he is already trying to stand.

Re: Moms of "bigger" babies...
i have a bigger baby. Ped. never said anything specifically about it but it did seem like when we were trying to get him through the rolling thing it was hard for him to get over his big belly and chubby arms. He only rolled front to back after 6 months and was 8 months before he rolled back to front. And as you know, still no crawling. But I don't think the crawling thing is because of weight. I think he just doesn't get the concept yet.

My DD walked at 10 months, and she is big for her age- I forget her stats but she has been wearing 2T clothes since she was about 8 months old.

Re: Moms of "bigger" babies...
Yes. At 9.5 months DS was found "a bit behind" physically by the ped. He was not crawling (barely army crawl), not sitting himself up and not raising himself up. He was 22lbs 6oz and 30 inches.
The main reason, DS was lazy and not interested in moving around. His fine motor skills were in comparison much more advanced though.
But I did not worry. Within 2-3 weeks after that visit, DS found out how to sit himself up, crawl AND raise himself (which he does once in a while). I had noticed he started to be restless when I held him. He was becoming a litlle worm. That's how we found out he was ready to explore other things and he started to crawl, etc...Before that, all he wanted to do was to study his toys in depth (like studying a toy label for HOURS!!!).

Re: Moms of "bigger" babies...
My daughter was big ( 19 lbs at 6 months) and while I remember reading that she might be later in physical milestones, I don't think my pedi actually said anything about it. She didn't roll over until almost 7 months, sit up until about 7.5-8months , crawl unitl 11 months and walk at 15 months. Now she runs everywhere and I break a sweat runnning after her

Re: Moms of "bigger" babies...
Ive heard of that...although the ped hasnt said it about Caden.
He rolled over on the earlier side and the rest of his development has been pretty much smack dab in the middle of the average range....
At a few days shy of 9 months he's..Army Crawling and Hands and Knees Crawling, Sitting himself up, and trying to pull himself up...
DH actually made a comment that it's going to take Caden awhile to pull up b/c of his "heft"!!!
You've seen him....he's a BIG BOY!

Re: Moms of "bigger" babies...
Def. not Jack. Everyone thought it would be harder for him to do things since he had more weight to carry but he is right on schedule.
