Moms of Bigger Toddlers Who Don't Walk Yet
How on earth do you handle going to outdoor events when they've had enough of sitting in the stroller?
We went to an outdoor party this weekend and I wound up just leaving early because there was no way I could possibly hold DS the entire time. We wound up hanging out in the house most of the time so he can crawl around but basically by ourselves because everyone else was outside.
I thought about just letting him crawl around the grass but I knew they sprayed for bugs so didn't want him to get it on his hands and in his mouth.
For now I've resigned myself to being unsocialable which isn't realistic. Any other ideas?

This was me this weekend. We were at a block party and everyone was outside, but i needed to stay inside for a long time since that was where he could crawl.
It is annoying and at 15 months I wish he would walk already

Re: Moms of Bigger Toddlers Who Don't Walk Yet
I'm pretty laid back about things like that, so i would let my DD's crawl on the grass or we would walk them around assisted(holding our hands), or we would carry them and plop them everywhere people/kids were so they can experience everything.
I think kids need to explore their world as much as possible, there's no way i could isolate myself from the rest of the party, might as well stay home then.
So sorry It gets easier!!! Soon you'll be chasing them around all the time cause they never want to stay in one spot!!

Can Matthew walk if he is holding something? Before Lucas started walking independently I would bring his Little Tikes push cart everywhere so he could push it around. That was a big help once he wanted out of the stroller. Also had to do a lot of holding both hands to let him walk (hurt my back a lot though). Other times DH (God bless him) would put Lucas up on his shoulders and that kept him content for a while...liked a different view.

You might want to get a sling or back-pack type baby holder. It allows you to have your hands free and the baby to still be safely contained.

Re: Moms of Bigger Toddlers Who Don't Walk Yet
to answer some questions...no, matthew doesn't walk assisted or holding onto anything. We're still working on that.
I probably should have had forsight enough to bring a blanket and some toys for him to play with which I'll remember next time. They did have a playground but it had woodchips that were eating at his knees. I'm generally not too uptight with what he does but the fresh spray of cutter on the lawn was worrying me.
In terms of a baby carrier and putting him on shoulders, he is probably too heavy for it.
I keep telling myself that in a few months this will get better once he can get around. But for now I will continue to ice my back and maybe be better prepared.

This will pass but in the meantime I would bring a blanket and some toys so he has someplace to sit outside. Or like someone suggested a push toy might be good too. I remember when Sophie started to walk and would walk holding on - my back killed for months.

I would probably bring a push toy that he could at least hold onto while standing up, alleviating the need for you to carry him. That must be hard

Re: Moms of Bigger Toddlers Who Don't Walk Yet
My son was 16m old when he started walking. Until then he crawled everywhere, he got 2 baths a day sometimes. You cant help it. I think this encouraged him to start to walk more! Im assuming he is too big for a pack and play...

Re: Moms of Bigger Toddlers Who Don't Walk Yet
I pretty much just let DD crawl wherever. Of course there are restrictions to that, but at a friend's house, I would definitely just let her crawl all over (she actually loves to crawl on pavement! ). That said, I *cannot wait* for DD to walk (she doesn't do any type of walking at all - won't hold your hands, doesn't cruise much ...).
