Moms of DC's that were born Sept - Dec...
DH and I were talking the other night about the future and how in a few years we want to have another child. We were talking about the ideal time of year, and ideally I would love to give birth AFTER the summer time... but what I'm concerned with is school. I'm concerned with the child being the youngest in their class or in the case of December (after the cut off) the oldest in the class. Is this a concern at all? Just would like some feedback.. tia!

Jack wasn't born in those months - but I was. December 15th. I was the youngest in my class and didn't mind at all.
See - I'm the total opposite - I will NEVER want to be pregnant in the summer again. I had the sweats from like March until the end of June when I had him. I couldn't imagine July/August being preggo.

Re: Moms of DC's that were born Sept - Dec...
LOLOL... well, what I'm concerned about is being sick during the summer because I had SEVERE morning sickness for a good 6 months... yep, 6 months... and I feel like I wouldnt want to ruin Ashley's summer.... and also I would like for the next baby to be able to go out into the sun(which is 5 or 6 months for sunblock, right?) so that we're not stuck in the house when Ashley is 3 years old and its the summertime, kwim?

Re: Moms of DC's that were born Sept - Dec...
My DD was born in Nov. and as a kindergarten teacher, I am going to see if she is mature enough for kindergarten. If not, I'll hold her back a year. I see children who are very immature and should be held back and then kids who are born later in the year and totally ready for school. It really depends on the child. If you feel that your child isn't ready, there is nothing wrong with holding them back.

Re: Moms of DC's that were born Sept - Dec...
DD was born in Oct. I havent even thought about her being young in her class. I was a December baby and I am used to it - and actually like it.
I am trying to decide when to plan #2 as well. I loved being off for the holidays this year, but I feel like my maternity leave went faster bc of them.
I hate the heat and was preggo during the summer. it wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. I don't really want to be far along in the winter - I dont want the hassle of finding coats and the fear of falling on ice.

I guess either way, there's always something, right? LOLOL... I really really liked being pregnant during the winter... Having an April baby was PERFECT but like I said, I'm more concerned with DD being bored to death stuck inside the house because the other baby is too young to go out and do stuff, ya know? Then again, I may be totally MISERABLE being pregnant during the summer... AHHH

Re: Moms of DC's that were born Sept - Dec...
The only reason I would shy away from September is that I'm stuck organizing a party without knowing the guest list or how many to invite since I don't know the size of his class.
We've had no problems with him being the youngest.
Joseph was born in September (due in October). So in the end, best laid plans...

Re: Moms of DC's that were born Sept - Dec...
DS1 was born in May and I loved that timing. I wasn't pregnant for the summer at all.
DS2 was born in November and the summer was rough and I had to be a little more cautious of germs in the cold and flu season. I do worry a bit about him being one of the younger kids in his class, not in the long run but I feel pressured to have him potty trained at a younger age and hope he will be mature enough, etc.

Re: Moms of DC's that were born Sept - Dec...
My oldest son was born 12/1 which is the cut off line for our school district. I sent him the first yr which made him the youngest to the day and in my case it was the worst decision that I made. He was not ready and his self esteem was dropping because the other kids were a head of him in almost everything. So by the end of the yr the teacher & I discussed holding him back and I am so glad I did. He might me the oldest in his class now but according to his teacher he is in the 90% tile for all of his subjects and he is the kid that helps the other children having problems in a subject. But just keep in mind every child is diff. some are ready and some just need more time.

Re: Moms of DC's that were born Sept - Dec...
We TTC for quite awhile, so we really weren't timing it at all when DS was born (December 5th)--we were just grateful he came along at all!
As for a December baby, the only minus IMO is having to stay indoors with him so much when the weather is really bad, or trying to avoid exposing him to too many sick people. I'm not worried about school, I think he'll be fine.
The pregnancy was great--you are sick before it gets really hot over the first 3 months, feel your best when it's hot and humid, and when you're huge at the end, it's cool again. Plus, there usually isn't much snow before early December, so I wasn't worried about having to go to the hospital in a blizzard.
Good luck!

Re: Moms of DC's that were born Sept - Dec...
My oldest is an October baby. He was the youngest in his class both years of preschool. But I don't see it as a big deal and I wouldn't let it interfer with my decision to try to conceive at a certain point. My other 2 kids are May & July babies and truthfully, I loved having a fall baby the best, maybe bc it's my favorite season. But as far as comfort in the pregnancy, I think the May baby was the best season. I wasn't very big in the cold and already had the baby when the summer came. I thought having the Oct baby was the worst when it came to getting through the hot weather.

Re: Moms of DC's that were born Sept - Dec...
I was a November baby and so ws DS. I was one of the youngest in my class, but it never really affected me (until the summer before I turned 21, when a bunch of my friends were legal and I wasn't, but I digress )
I think if I had a choice, a Spring baby would be nice. I hated that I was so hot during pregnancy and with the warm weather we had this fall, I was never so happy for cold weather to arrive. I also think it would be nice to get out and take walks with him right now but the winter weather doesn't allow it and I am still a little nervous about exposing him to all the germs in stores and malls. I think once he is older though, a fall birthday is fun, but I know that some years DS's birthday will fall on Thanksgiving.
