Moms of kids who have very close bdays
What do you do about partys? Do they have a joint party? Each have their own?
DS will be 3 just 2 weeks before DD will be 1. I have a very small family and feel it's sill to invite the same circle of people to 2 parties in 2 weeks. It's June/July which is always a busy time of year anyway
I wouln't mind a together party, but DS will be aware enough to "get" his bday this year- he was even into his 2nd party...likewise I feel that sort of gyps Meagan of her own 1st bday celbrations.
Any thoughts?
BTW, I AM crazy to be thinking of this in Jan. when it's so far away, but not sure what to do Thanks!

Re: Moms of kids who have very close bdays
I am going to be in the EXACT same situation as you when #2 is born. My due date is 2 weeks before DD's b-day...she'll be turning 3 right after baby is born. So obviously no birthday party problems this year, but in subsequent years, it could be an issue.
I like to do her b-day up big (not necessarily expense-wise, just detail-wise to make it extra special), so I can almost see myself doing 2 parties so that they're each special, esp. as they are older w/their own friends....then maybe a small joint party for family
ETA: Both will be late-June b-days, so I feel your pain about it being a tough time of year too.

Re: Moms of kids who have very close bdays
The time of year makes it SO hard. Our anniversary is in there, too
Last year I was 9 months preg and DS party and I wanted it to be a great day for him- his last couple of weeks as only child. I will always remember him saying "oh nice" when he saw all the Elmo party goods I put out I look at pics and am so glad he had such a nice bday!
Now what to do this coming year.....

I swear, I've thought the same thing...I wish baby was due right AFTER DD's b-day so I could let her have a fun party...but I'm going to force myself to do a nice party for her still even if I give birth the week before
I really have no solution, obviously...wish I could give you suggestions. Maybe we could have all 4 of our kids b-days together in 1 big party?

Re: Moms of kids who have very close bdays
I think you should give Meagan her own special 1st birthday party and have a backyard party for Connor and think about this problem next year. First birthday is a big one and third is when they really click with what is going on. Next year will be different... But you know we will be there

Re: Moms of kids who have very close bdays
My niece and nephew's birthdays are a day apart. My niece was born one day shy of my nephew's second birthday. So far they have had joint parties because they too young to know the difference. He is 5 and she is 3. Soon they will start to have separate parties

Re: Moms of kids who have very close bdays
Mine are 4 weeks apart (May/June - so busy!). I didn't combine birthdays last year (Erik's 1st, Ella's 3rd). We had a big party for Erik, and a smaller gathering with for Ella.
It didn't feel right to combine them the first year. But going forward, I've been considering one family party for them both (maybe with separate parties for their friends).

I think about this too. My boys birthdays are 4 days apart. They are 2 years apart. I would like to have Landon's 1st bday alone and special just like Logans was. Not sure what we'll do this year but I'm thinking until they get old enough to want their own parties with their own friends that they will have them together.

I would do one party for the family and as the children get bigger have individual parties for their friends.

Re: Moms of kids who have very close bdays
My kids are 3 days apart (May 6th and 9th). They have, up until this point, always had a joint celebration - however, it's only been family celebrations. And since they are so close, I could never have family coming over 2x for each of them.
I will continue to do a combined party for them with family and close friends. However, now that DS is in K and DD is in Nursery school, I am considering a small party for each with their classmates. Maybe not for my soon to be 4 year old just yet, but definitely for my soon to be 6 year old. He's itching for a party with his classmates. Besides, it gets super expensive, so the longer I don't have to have a "friend" party, the better off I am

Re: Moms of kids who have very close bdays
Thanks ladies!!! I am so glad I'm not the only one in this boat
I think when they are older (teens) it will be nice to do a bday vacation type thing I just never want them to feel gyped as little kids! I'm an only child so even thinking of sibling relationships is sort of new to me!

Re: Moms of kids who have very close bdays
DC are about 3 weeks apart. For as much as possible, we are keeping their parties separate. I grew up sharing a b-day with my twin sibs, who were a month before mine. None of us liked having to share the b-day (obviously, bro and sis kinda knew they would have to share, almost by definition... ), so I'm going to try and keep DC's b-days separate.

Re: Moms of kids who have very close bdays
My boys are August 29 (turned 4) and August 14 (turned 1). I had a joint party - big bbq. I was having the same people for both boys' party and honestly to make it easier for me AND for my guests I had it together... I knew no one would want to come to 2 parties within 2 weeks.
ETA: DSs L O V E eachother and my 4 yr old WANTED to have a party with his brother so it was very easy for me. I did a Curious George theme (4 yr old chose) and had a few 1 year signs.....they also each had their own cake -curiuos george for DS#1 and first bday cake for DS#2.

My DC have the same bday. I plan on giving them joint parties until they are school age and have their own friends. At that point, they will have separate parties.

yes, i could not imagine not being happy about having a party...a party is a party.
i was 8, he was 7, she was 6 when we had our last one.
there is no way people could have been expected to come to our house 3 saturdays in a row during the summer. my mother's b-day is in the middle of the first 2...she had her party with us as well

Re: Moms of kids who have very close bdays
Well our girls were supposed to be 1.5-2 weeks apart but ended up being a month apart (she was born at exactly 37 weeks). It gets tricky b.c DD#2's birthday is around Memorial day the weekend before this year (she was born memorial day weekend) and DD#1's bday this year is ON father's day.
For us we did a family party with some close friends for DD#1's 1st since we felt it was more for us than for her. DD#1 got a bit gyped this year b.c the baby was only a few weeks old so we just did a family party. We did a family party with Mickey and Minnie and she had a blast but we didn't have other kids only b.c the baby was so young.
This year we are going to WDW for DD#2's 1st bday (and will celebrate DD#1 there too) since there is a big family wedding out of state memorial day we will probably have to have DD#2's bday party in the beginning of June rather than in May. We are just going to do family and haven't decided if maybe we will invite some close friends to it or not.
We will be pushing DD#1's bday party back a bit and either doing it the weekend after her bday or maybe do a big 4th of July party and celebrate it then. We are trying to decide if we will do a full party somewhere or just something at our new home with some entertainment for her 1st real party.
Could you do a big party for your DS on his birthday or around that time or even the week before - then do maybe a 4th of july party and celebrate your DD's bday with family at that time?
I like the idea of family vacations to celebrate bdays when they get older - that is a great way to do something special and get some quality family time!

My brother's birthday and my birthday are 3 weeks apart ( 2 years difference) and as kids we always had a joint family party, and we loved it. We also each had our own individual friends party too. I think I would do the same thing as my mom did for us.
